September 2024 Newsletter
Hello Villagers!
We are excited to invite you to join us in celebrating the remarkable 10th anniversary of our Redwood Coast PACE program this month at both our Eureka and Fortuna sites! This milestone is not just a celebration of a decade of dedicated service; it's a testament to our shared mission of empowering older adults to thrive while living independently in their beloved communities. Their mission is close to our hearts. Please join us at one of the open houses!
Other September events you might enjoy include the Potowat Village Farmers' Market, an annual Eureka Car and Motorcycle show, a Fiber Fair in Arcata, a fun play in Ferndale and the beloved North Country Fair at the end of the month!
Get your volunteer hours in by helping clean up the trail to Baker Beach in Trinidad or lending a hand for our deserving veterans at the Ferndale Fairgrounds during the North Coast Stand down!
Whatever you do, be safe and don't hesitate to wear a mask when it feels right!
See you next month!

How time consuming is volunteering at RCV?
Volunteer Janet Luzzi Responds!
“I maintain a light volunteer schedule that is convenient for me, whether I am providing a ride or delivering groceries to an RCV member. I like the flexibility as I enjoy traveling throughout the year and am not committed to a “regular” volunteer schedule. I have met some delightful members this way and really enjoy lending a hand when I can. RCV makes it very easy!”

"Blithe Spirit"
Ferndale Repertory Theatre
September 13 - October 6
A smash comedy hit in London and New York, this much-revived classic from the playwright of Private Lives concerns fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, who has remarried but finds himself haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, Elvira. Clever, insistent and well aware of Charles' shortcomings, Elvira is called up by a visiting “happy medium,” the eccentric and flighty Madame Arcati. As everyone's personalities clash, Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed. She “passes over” and joins Elvira, allowing the two “blithe spirits” to haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity.

Stay Active and Independent for Life: A Lifeline for Older Adults
by Scott Binder
"In an era where maintaining health and independence is paramount, the University of Washington has pioneered a transformative fitness program designed specifically for older adults. The Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program is an evidence-based initiative aimed at enhancing strength, balance, and overall fitness for individuals aged 65 and older. Thanks to the Area 1 Agency on Aging, The McKinleyville Senior Center is proud to host this vital program twice weekly.
The core of the program is a community-based fitness class that meets two times a week for one hour. Each session includes a warm-up, aerobics, balance exercises, strength training, and stretching…and an optional group walk around Pierson Park afterward.
Join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am – 10am; for more information, please call 707-839-0191. As always, we are sharing and caring!
