Dear Friends,

Do you have a favorite recipe? I’d love to hear what your favorite is and why.

With fall on the horizon the recipe that comes to mind is butternut squash, carrot, apple, ginger soup. I’m not sure I even made it last year due to challenges my family was navigating. Even though this week seems on the warm side, this hearty soup sounds just right. I will have to wait at least a week since I do not currently have the necessary ingredients. This is okay for it will provide time to think about this tasty, comforting soup.

Six days each week at eight SSKP Meal Sites teams of volunteers plan, prepare, and serve hundreds of meals to our neighbors. Last week I had the honor of witnessing one of these meals being prepared by our incredible volunteers. It is an act of kindness that expands the table for all.

Four days a week at five SSKP pantry’s tens of thousands of pounds of food are shared with our neighbors. These groceries help individuals and families prepare their own meals based on their preferences and needs.

Each week SSKP works to share food with Food Backpack Programs for children. These efforts strive to get food directly to young people in our community.

The recipe for SSKP is found in our Mission and Core Values. We strive to share Food and Fellowship with those in need. This is lived out through a commitment to hospitality, dignity & respect, stewardship, volunteerism, community, and gratitude. By working together, the capacity of the recipe is sufficient to meet the needs.

My favorite recipe includes working together with you!

With gratitude,

Amy

Niantic Main Street held a food drive for SSKP at their Car Cruise in August. It was a beautiful evening and community members came together for a fun event and to help SSKP provide food to their neighbors. They collected a total of 385 lbs. of non-perishable food for our SSKP East Lyme Pantry and over $600 in donations. Thank you to Niantic Main Street and all who gave so generously!
