September is Library Card Sign-up Month!
*NEW* Library Card Self-Registration
Library cards open doors to worlds of reading, learning, creating, community, and so much more!
As of late-August, patrons may self-register for library cards. Staff will notify patrons when their card is ready for pickup. Patrons will have to present official identification and proof of current address to receive their new library card.
OverDrive & Libby App
OverDrive will be performing a technical change on October 30, 2020 that may affect some early devices, such as Android devices that cannot upgrade to at least Android version 5, including early Kindle Fires, early Samsung Galaxy tablets, and Kobo Arc devices (all of which were released in 2014 or earlier). Affected users will be notified by a message on their devices beginning September 1, 2020 and will be directed to an article that explains the change.
Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week is celebrated this year from September 27-October 3. This annual event celebrates the freedom to read. As stated by the American Library Association, "typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community - librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types - in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular."
Look for "Banned Book Bundles" coming in late-September - patrons will be able to check out a book and movie bundle, along with a bag of delicious microwave popcorn!
Summer Reading
Summer reading books for students in grades K-12 from area schools are ready for pickup. Simply place a hold for your summer reading materials in your account via the online catalog, or give the Library a call at 508-764-5426 to speak to a staff member.
