"Don't brag about tomorrow, since you don't know what the day will bring."(Proverbs 27:1)
As I finish this newsletter, I am off to the hospital after receiving an unexpected phone call. We never know what a day will bring. Plan for the unplanned. Your day may completely change at a moment's notice. Do what you can today, for tomorrow may not go as planned. Don't procrastinate. Do it now. Get stuff done for Sunday early in the week. Plan ahead. Leave early. Don't wait till the last minute. Make a busy day busier. I've always remembered what I heard Rick Warren say about his expectations of his fast, flexible and fluid.

Jesus even told Judas concerning his upcoming betrayal, “Hurry and do what you’re going to do.” (John 13:28) James writes that we should be "doers of the Word." (James 5:22). Get to it now.

Pacific Church Network has a great opportunity to take advantage of a generous and beneficial discount to our member churches, but only if a majority of our churches are willing to sign up.

Alliance Defending Freedom was created by a group of visionary Christian leaders, like James Dobson, James Kennedy, Larry Burkett and Bill Bright, with a mission to reverse the growing threat to religious freedom. The great work of their founders continues through their allies and attorneys worldwide.

With many laws in the California legal system steadily moving against  religious freedom the sanctity of life , and  marriage and family, churches need to stand together and have someone fight for our religious freedom.   ADF will defend churches and protect their freedom to live consistently with their faith.

Please indicate your church's willingness to sign up for this $200 per year membership--which is a fantastic, but limited offer. We only qualify for this offer if a majority of PCN churches are willing to sign up in 2019.
Iglesia Evangelica Centro Biblico K'anjobal (CBK) in Los Angeles is Pacific Church Network's largest Spanish-speaking church. Most of the 500 plus attenders are connected to a community in northern Guatemala that speaks K'anjobal, a regional language. This church has worship services in South Central LA every Tuesday night, Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday morning to provide a variety of options for their members. CBK fills their auditorium and parking lots most nights as they sing, pray and preach. They also br oadcast their services to Guatemala via radio, Facebook and YouTube.

Jim Smith and Emilio Núñez vi sited their church on Friday night, August 17, and the place was packed. We pray for Pastor Jacobo Jeronimo and for the amazin g things God is doing there. Glad to have them as an member of PCN.
On Saturday, August 25, church leaders gathered at Pacific Coast Church in San Clemente to hear Dr. Rick Koole share stories and solutions of how to have a healthy church. He shook us up with some church horror stories! He talked about marks and roles of church leaders, how to protect the financial part of your church, and 20 practical lessons for church leaders. Good stuff. Thanks Rick!!
Pacific Church Network's youth retreat was a wonderful experience for all 136 people in attendance. On August 24-26, churches from San Diego to Port Hueneme came to Pine Summit to enjoy a weekend in the mountains, fun, games, and a time to strengthen and grow in their relationship with God. Matt Shool, from San Antonio Heights Community Church in Upland was the guest speaker. Registration closed down two weeks before the retreat started when it sold out!

Special thanks to Dourly Galvez who planned, organized, promoted, recruited, and led this wonderful weekend. Thanks Dourly!

Dan Reiland is Executive Pastor at 1 2Stone Church  in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He previously partnered with  John Maxwell  for 20 years, first as Executive Pastor at  Skyline Wesleyan Church  in San Diego, then as Vice President of Leadership and Church Development at  INJOY .

Continue to pray for CB Chaplains who work all around the world. Here in America, over 1,800 soldiers have made professions of faith in the last six months at an Army base in Missouri. One Sunday, U.S. Army Chaplain Capt. Jose Rondon took to Facebook to rejoice in the fact that nearly 400 soldiers came to faith in Christ that day. And that total is only a small part of a broader revival that has been occurring at Fort Leonard Wood. "Since March 11, 2018, we have seen 1,839 Soldiers coming to Christ."

Plan now to attend our 2019 Pacific Church Network Annual Meeting in Long Beach, CA. You'll be glad yo u did. It will be a great time to network with other churches, hear about the exciting things happening around our network, and be encouraged.

Hope International Bible Fellowship, a PCN member church, is merging with Reality LA. Pastor Ed Carey of Hope said: "Reality LA and Hope International Bible Fellowship are partnering for the advance of the kingdom in Los Angeles. The two churches have always shared the same basic purpose and a partnership will continue the beautiful tradition of preaching the Word and feeding the hungry in East Hollywood, as well as rooting and catalyzing the ministry of Reality LA. By God’s grace, and with a unity that can only come from the Holy Spirit, Reality LA has inherited the people, ministries, and property of Hope IBF in order to move forward as one family that is seeking the renewal of Los Angeles through the gospel of Jesus Christ."
Studies show there has been a 30% increase (in the last 30 years) in teenage narcissism. More kids today think they are more awesome than everyone else. Many struggle with narcissism because they are constantly faced with social media, reality TV and technology that tells them they are stars and entitled to do and say whatever they want. “Children aged 9 to 11 now hold “fame” as their No. 1 value. Fame ranked 15th in 1997,” reports Journal of Psychology Research on Cyberspace.

Teens who report high-frequency digital media use are twice as likely to develop attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), reports a study published in the 7/17/18 issue of Journal of the American Medical Assoc. (JAMA). Christian mental health practitioners say excessive screen time can damage the soul as well. Among the digital platforms studied were social media, texting, internet browsing, streaming or downloading music, chatting online and streaming TV or movies.
On August 1, President Trump invited many inner city pastors to join him in the cabinet room to discuss prison reform, job growth and other issues affecting inner cities. He said, " I just want to again thank you all for being here. And you’re very special people. I don’t even know if you know that, but you’re very special people. You’re admired by everybody in this country. Even if they’re not believers, most of them admire what you’re doing. But maybe we’ll make them believers, right?"

On August 27, over 100 Christians were invited to the White House for a dinner including Greg Laurie, David Jeremiah, Tony Perkins, J.D. Greear, Ronnie Floyd, Jack Graham and more. Floyd, pastor of Cross Church in northwest Arkansas, told Baptist Press via email, "The purpose of the event was to celebrate the contribution of evangelicals in the administration as well as the advancement of so many things Christians care about deeply. The president and his cabinet have been so committed to being: pro-life, pro-religious liberty, and [he] has made pro-conservative judicial appointments."
