2021 ENERGY, SALMON, AGRICULTURE AND COMMUNITY: REVISITED |

On May 13, 2021 the Andrus Center hosted a follow-up to the 2019 groundbreaking conference – Salmon, Energy, Agriculture, and Community: Can We Come Together?
The half-day virtual event began with opening speaker Shannon Wheeler, Chairman of the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee. We also heard from keynote speakers Congressmen Earl Blumenauer (Oregon), Dan Newhouse (Washington), and Mike Simpson (Idaho).
There was also a panel discussion moderated by author and environmental reporter Rocky Barker that included many return panelists from our 2019 event to discuss where we are now and how things are moving forward. Panelists included:

- David Reeploeg, Vice President of Federal Programs for Tri-City Development Council
- Debra Smith, CEO of Seattle City Light
- Shannon Wheeler, Chairman of the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee

ANDRUS SCHOLARS CLASS OF 2021 -- INTERVIEWS |
|
Our Andrus Scholars Class of 2021 doubled in size thanks to a collaborative endeavor with Boise State University's Biology Department and a National Science Foundation Idaho EPSCoR Program. The GEM3 EPSCoR grant funded three additional environmentally focused Biology students alongside our traditional three School of Public Service Environmental Studies students.
Andrus Scholars with Biology majors who were funded by the EPSCOR grant include Allen Chatfield, Lauren Kirschner, and Sydney Patterson. Andrus Scholars with an Environmental Studies degree focus are funded by our endowed Andrus Scholars Fund donors and include Amanda Grimsted, Cheyon Sheen, and Maggi Szelez.

2021 PANEL DISCUSSION: CLIMATE CHANGE AND PUBLIC LANDS
|

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Andrus Center is partnering with the BLM and the Public Lands Foundation to host a conversation on climate change and the public lands on November 10, 2021.
Join us for this unique panel discussion with Moderator Tim Murphy, former BLM Idaho State Director and National Interagency Fire Center ( NIFC) Director. The panelists joining the discussion will be BSU Professor Jen Pierce, UC Berkeley Professor Steven Beissinger, TRCP's Center for Public Lands Director Madeleine West, and National Interagency Fire Center Director Grant Beebe.
Current plans are for the panel discussion to be both in-person at Boise State University and hosted virtually for an online audience.

2022 EDUCATION CONFERENCE -- VIRTUAL
|
|
Previously postponed, this virtual half-day conference will follow up on the 2015 Education Conference: Finding Common Ground. The 2015 conference focused on the science and economic data supporting the need to ensure that every Idaho child, regardless of economic status or geographic location, should be prepared and ready to learn upon entry to kindergarten and first grade.
Seven years later, we want to continue the conversation, spotlighting innovative solutions being implemented throughout our state and ensuring all Idaho children can access the tools they need to enter school ready to learn.
Save the date for this half-day virtual conference on Thursday, January 13, 2022.

2022 YOUNG WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
|
|
|
|
The 4th annual Young Women and Leadership conference is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, 2022. 9th-12th grade students will hear from role models and participate in unique skill-building workshops designed to help instill the characteristics of leadership in the youth of today – our leaders of tomorrow.
If you know of any high schoolers interested in attending, please direct them to our website and encourage them to save the date: March 15, 2022. We plan for this conference to be hosted in person, but this may be subject to change in the presence of our evolving COVID-19 precautions.
