SEPTEMBER 27, 2024 – These days, it’s exciting to pass by 455 McDermot Avenue and see the construction activity of the new Sakihiwewin Lodge – Ka Ni Kanichihk’s upcoming community campus. Since breaking ground in mid 2023, we’ve made significant progress moving forward to doubling the programming space for our community to gather, learn, and celebrate. As we prepare to open our new campus in 2025, here’s a glimpse at what’s been happening since our last update in June...

(September 18, 2024)

Roxanne Greene created an illustration over the course of this year's Waniska Gathering, encompassing the range of presentations and topics. The mural was presented by Greene at the end of the event. | |
SEPTEMBER 18, 2024 – This year’s Waniska Gathering was held over three days from Monday, September 16 to Wednesday, September 18 at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Ka Ni Kanichihk hosted the event in partnership with the Waniska Centre for HIV/HCV/STBBI Research.
This three-day, Indigenous-led gathering was a unique opportunity to raise awareness and foster collaboration in addressing the growing HIV and STBBI rates in our province and communities.
The event joined the community in learning, sharing knowledge, and engaging together with fellow community members, health professionals, advocates, and other organizations involved in this important work of promoting health and well-being, and rising up and stopping the stigma surrounding HIV, HCV, and STBBI’s.

AUGUST 20, 2024 – Ka Ni Kanichihk held its annual Staff BBQ and Family Day at Kildonan Park this year! There were so many activities for everyone involved, like giant board games, painting, a candy scramble and scavenger hunt for the youth – and a bouncy castle! We would like to thank Niña Waṡte Events for providing so many games for everyone to enjoy, and we would also like to thank Smoke’n Bob’s Hotdogs for providing the food.
