1 - Booster Club Membership

BE A PART OF THE TEAM BEHIND THE TEAM!

Thank you to all our families who have joined the Booster Club already this year and who have stepped up to volunteer to drive JV carpools, work concessions, and attend meets, games, and matches wearing your Bulldog spirit wear (available through our School Store online and in person at the School Store on Tuesdays & Thursdays during lunch 11 am - noon). You are what makes Churchill athletics amazing. If you haven't joined yet this school year, it's not too late!

Why join? Whether your student is an athlete, a fan, or participates in PE, the Booster Club fundraises through annual membership donations to provide important resources and support to help ensure a safe, competitive, spirited, and fun experience for all!

What is the Booster Club? The Booster Club is a fundraising organization of Bulldog families that works with the Athletic Department to ensure that our athletes have the necessary equipment and facilities to compete safely and at the highest possible level each year. The county provides Churchill with only a fraction of what it takes to support our sports teams. In a typical year, the athletics budget spent per athlete (per roster spot) at Churchill is around $220, yet the County’s contribution is less than $80. The Booster Club plays a critical role in providing supplemental resources to help offset this shortfall.

Can’t remember if you joined this year? Several more teams are getting close to 100% membership! Will it be your team? If you can’t remember if you joined the Booster Club already this year, ask your Team Booster Rep or send an email to our Membership Chairs, Claire Drummond and Aby Filomeno, and they will check for you! Help your team earn 10% of its membership dollars and $300 for achieving 100% team membership!

Your annual membership in the Booster Club will provide our student athletes and teams with critical resources.

3 - Team News & Updates

A huge congratulations our 2022-23 Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer teams! United Soccer Coaches awarded each team with a Team Academic Award. Churchill's teams were on the short list of only 39 of 317 teams that received this honor for both boys and girls teams in the same year! United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school soccer teams. To qualify, a team must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 for the entire academic year. In the words of girls varsity soccer head coach Haroot Hakopian: "In academic settings which include co-curricular athletics, we frequently hear the term "student-athlete." I am proud to be a part of an athletic program that prioritizes the first term in that phrase. There is no doubt that the level of intensity and focus that the girls show on the field is matched in the classroom. I am fortunate to be coaching a group of young women who excel in the classroom and on the pitch. Keep up the great work on the field and in the classroom! Read more here!

Churchill’s JV Football Team has demonstrated its prowess on the field with two decisive early season victories against Seneca Valley (30-0) and BCC (35-0). Next up: Quince Orchard on Thursday September 21st (6pm @ Churchill). Go Dawgs!

The JV Field Hockey Team is on the upswing, with new and returning team members really beginning to gel together and a fantastic new coach this season! After a tough loss to South River in the first game of the season, the team tied Quince Orchard, looking dominant throughout the game with some great shots on goal. In the home opener, the team defeated Old Mill, 4-0, with goals in quick succession during the second half of the game! The team continues to practice hard and have fun together with team meals and secret sister gifts. These Dawgs are just getting started so be sure to keep an eye on them this season!

We are thrilled to feature updates about teams by the players, parents, or coaches. Please send a sentence or two and photos to [email protected] Subject Line: NEWSLETTER, and we will do our best to include your submission. We are proud of our Dawgs!

4 - School Store & Merch Updates!

The School Store has two new faces managing this important fundraiser for the Booster Club this year - Wendy Feldman (9th grade mom) and Penny Bortnick (11th grade mom). They are working hard to keep the shelves stocked and plan to be open for business on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the lunch hour (11 - noon) this year. So please stop by and say hi! Parents are welcome to stop by and shop at the School Store too, after checking in at the Main Office. The Store is located across from the Main Gym around the corner from the Main Office.

As part of this new launch, the School Store committee is working on creating some new and exciting WCHS branded merchandise but would love to hear from both students and parents as to what they want to see for “school merch.” They hope to showcase some new designs as well as incorporate some of the latest apparel styles.

Spirit wear will be sold at all home football games and at a few home soccer games. We would also like to hold Pop-Up events at other teams' home games this year but need YOUR help to make that happen!

In order to accomplish these goals of more in-person School Store events, we need VOLUNTEERS! Please email Wendy or Penny if you would like to learn more about how to help! In addition, we are working on something super special and exciting… so if you are interested in an advertising opportunity for your business, please reach out to Wendy or Penny to learn more!
