NEWS & UPDATES
Thank you Peterborough Utilities!
The Peterborough Utilities Group recently made a donation to support informational signage in the Abby McNaughton Memorial Garden.

“Signage is another way for us to deliver information because the garden is really a teaching space." said Susan Ramey, seen here receiving the cheque from Chrissy Rusaw, Executive Assistant Coordinator for the Utilities Group. “It will help guests decipher what they are viewing when staff are not present and add to their learning experience.”

We thank Peterborough Utilities for their support of this ‘greening’ project.
2021 Memories Project
“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” Dr. Seuss should have been here recently when two former staff members turned up for a day of memories.

Ruth Waterhouse, or ‘Nursie’ as she was known in the late 1950s and early 1960s, was Camp nurse and played nursemaid to the boys who attended Camp K back then. Now in her 90s, Ruth was full of reminiscences about the ailments she dealt with (not much has changed in that regard), her role as a ‘mother-figure’ to homesick boys, and the set up of the Health Centre (it was very different back then but, in the same cabin).
Ruth and Cathy Romano, our current Health Care Coordinator, shared some laughs about their common nursing experiences at camp.
On the same day we welcomed former Executive Director, Bill Barnard. Bill was in charge in the early 1960s when the Camp was run by the YMCA. He explained that the Camp was differently configured back then. For example, the kitchen and dining hall were on the lower level, where the volleyball court is now!

Both Ruth and Bill were filmed as part of our Memories 2021 Project and we are very pleased to have their voices added to our growing archive.
