FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
Win Dunwell, University of Kentucky

Please plan to participate in the October 20, 2020 Eastern Region IPPS Annual General Meeting at 2 pm EDT. We will elect officers, hear from committees, and receive wonderful news from the IPPS ER Foundation. Look for Zoom connection information closer to the event.

The microMEETINGS have been great and I am looking forward to those. Chuck Martin and the IPPS Eastern Region education committee are hosting each presentation. The first two microMEETINGS were well attended with participation throughout the world.

The plan of the ER-IPPS Education Committee is to sponsor one microMEETING each month.
The initial meetings were certainly a highlight of each month. The first was a tour of Knight Hollow Nursery, a tissue culture laboratory that can’t be toured en masse so it was a one-time look. A number of people were not aware of this first meeting and regretted missing this inaugural tour. Fortunately, you can view the recording here anytime.

The screen shot below shows Sean Halloran, Plant Propagator at the Arnold Arboretum, giving a virtual tour of the greenhouse and nursery operation, which was the second microMEETING.

Read in the newsletters for announcements of future microMEETINGS. The next is LED Lighting for Greenhouses by Dr. Erik Runkle, Michigan State University this Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 4:00 PM EDT. Register here.
FREE WEBINAR ON LED LIGHTING THIS WEDNESDAY

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are increasingly being used in greenhouses to create long days (to regulate flowering) and to increase growth. There are a number of considerations when selecting a type of LED bulb or fixture for plant applications.

Tune in September 23, 2020 at 4 pm EDT as Dr. Runkle of Michigan State University walks you through the most important considerations, including light spectrum, fixture efficacy, light uniformity, as well as installation considerations and costs.

SEPTEMBER SPOTLIGHT - YOUBIN ZHENG

Our organization and its member nurseries have benefited from the research conducted by Youbin Zheng, a professor at the University of Guelph School of Environmental Sciences. Not only is he an outstanding researcher, he has also been extremely helpful to IPPS in planning our last conference in Ontario.

Recently, he was interviewed by Landscape Trades about his partnerships in the nursery industry. Read about Youbin here.
