"Love is dynamic in action and contagious in effect. Pure love is matchless in majesty; it has no parallel in power and there is no darkness it cannot dispel." - Meher Baba

A VITAL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE IS

NOW IN PLACE!

Jai Baba dear friends,

We've got some very exciting news!

The Heartland Center has just acquired a crucial piece of property that is adjacent to the hospital where Baba and His mandali were treated so beautifully and recuperated after His fateful 1952 accident near Prague, Oklahoma.

The purchase of this land cements into place a vital piece of the Heartland Memorial Initiative's (HMI) larger vision of acquiring and preserving the crown jewel of the block - the Prague Regional Memorial Hospital.

Typically referred to as the "corner lot," it is the third of four parcels on the city block that already contains the Heartland Center's two beautifully restored homes - the Burleson and Morrison Houses - as well as the hospital.

The location of this lot is circled below in one vision for the memorial proposed by Pedro Miranda.

For years, even after the hospital had received the necessary approval to move, the city - which owns the hospital - still wanted to purchase the corner lot to use for extra parking. But when the property came up for sale this summer, the city manager told us they were no longer interested in buying it because their relocation plans are moving ahead.

This is particularly exciting because it allowed us to purchase this critical piece of the larger HMI vision.  And just as important, it's tangible evidence that the hospital’s anticipated move now seems to be even more of a certainty.

In the short term, until we acquire the hospital, e’re considering a variety of ideas for how this corner lot could be used. These include landscaping and creating a garden/sitting area with picnic tables that the hospital staff could use as needed, or parking spaces.

Most importantly, we hope His loving presence will permeate this new area in the same way that so many have experienced in the rest of the block.

All of this has largely been made possible by the loving, generous support of Baba lovers like you. We cannot thank you enough! But there is still much more that we must do to be prepared for the moment when the hospital comes up for sale.

IN OTHER NEWS...

The work goes on….

With the help of a great crew of local workers, the roof deck on the Morrison House was completed at the end of June, just in time to watch the town’s fireworks on the Fourth.

Renovations are also underway on the garage, which had termite damage and other structural problems. And finally, work has begun on a screened-in porch at the back of the house.

“It will be a really good addition to the living space,” says our caretaker Jane Montgomery. “I envision breakfast in the morning and hanging out. Life is really complete when you have a screened porch with a ceiling fan!”

A visit from India…

In August, the Heartland Center hosted a group of 25 Indian Baba lovers from Hyderabad who were traveling across America from Los Angeles to Myrtle Beach. For many of them, it was a lifelong dream to come to Baba’s sacred places in America.

After visiting Meherabode in LA, then Meher Mount and Meherana, the group flew into Oklahoma City. They rented a tour bus and arrived on the afternoon of the twelfth. After learning about the history of the Heartland Center from our caretaker Jane, they went in small groups to the hospital where Baba and the mandali were treated and recuperated.

“They were really awe-struck,” says Bhanu Nissankara, who’d come up from Texas to translate. “You could see they really appreciated being there, especially in the hospital where they were saying their prayers.”

They next went to the accident site for more prayers and again were taken by the power of the place.

“They really felt it was a sacred spot, so a lot of pilgrims took bits of grass from the accident site,” says Bhanu.

Another thing that struck Bhanu was that while this was a fairly large group of international pilgrims who wanted to experience the sacred sites of Meher Baba’s suffering in America, it was the start of a future trend.

“This also just gives a glimpse into the far future because a lot more people will be coming to the accident site and the Heartland Center.”

If you’d also like to visit Baba’s Heartland Center, all of the travel information you might need can be found on our website’s Visit page.
