Platte County Federated Women's Democratic Club

The Women’s Club held its first social outreach party at Big Shots on N. Cosby on September 16th.

Chris Hershey from the Platte County Board of Elections was on hand to provide information about changes to the rules for registering voters that have been on and off for the last couple of years. Those who want to register people to vote are required to register with the Secretary of State by filling out the “Registration Form for Voter Registration Solicitors” (it is a very simple one page form). Contact the Secretary of State’s Office, Elections Division, PO Box 1767, Jefferson City, MO 65102, email: ELECTIONS@SOS.MO.GOV or Fax 573 526-3242. Dawn Dolby reported that she received an acknowledgement from the SOS to her emailed form. No one else has received an acknowledgement of their registration. Chris stayed and answered questions. It was a good crowd with familiar faces and lots of new people too! What a good gathering!

Platte Country Democratic Central Committee

The Central Committee met at the KCPD North Patrol on September 21st.

The guest speaker was Yvonne Reeves-Chong, Vice-Chair of MDP. Yvonne fired up a capacity crowd at the KCPD North Patrol facility. Her message was that the Missouri Democratic Party is fully mobilized to recruit and support candidates. She reminded the group that there are more of us than there are of “them” (the loud MAGA crowd) they represent about a third of the Republican Party, the Republican Party represents about one third of the electorate (the “us” being Independents and Democrats) so the MAGA group represents about one third of one third (i.e.one sixth) of the electorate. She reminded us that if we are concerned about Democrats getting our message out that we are the ones conveying that message. We all need to talk to our friends, neighbors even strangers about how important this election is. We are the ones who need to tell everyone what Democrats will work to make our government work for the people. That means support for schools, libraries, roads and bridges, health care, protecting the environment and reproductive health care.

Plans for the Weston Applefest parade on October 7 were discussed. And we celebrated our Chair, Meredith Peace’s birthday!

Northland Democratic Club

The Northland Democratic Club met at the ACA Club in North Kansas City. Guest speakers were Alexis Cook, Missouri Workers Center and Jim Bates for MO HD-38 https://twitter.com/JimBatesForMO . Missouri Workers Center is United Against Racism and for Good Jobs For All. Details.

Two events were announced for October. The October 17th meeting will be an opportunity to socialize with fellow Northland Democrats at a picnic at Happy Rock Park West, 7511 N. Antioch Rd, Gladstone from 6-8 pm. Hotdogs and Brats will be on the menu. Candidates for Missouri offices have been invited. Please sign up so we know how much food to have on hand at https://tinyurl.com/NDCSocial.

The second is our 2nd Trunk or Treat event October 28th.
