Getting Out the Vote
The League's latest Get Out the Vote efforts include the distribution of yard signs.
This effort was initiated by the NYS League. For $12.00, individuals or groups may purchase an 18” X 24” lawn sign that says "Vote" in 7 languages and shows the Vote411.org and League of Women Voters logos. It also includes a wire stake to put into the ground. The signs will be the responsibility of their owners to place and remove appropriately and store for future years. The more signs, the more impact.
To order one or more of these signs please send a check to:
League of Women Voters of Rensselaer County, 265 River St. Troy, NY 12180.
Please include your name, address, email and phone number with your order.
Deadline is Saturday September 26th for orders.
LWVRC will contact you for delivery or pick up the week of October 5.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 2020
Along with the National and State Leagues, the League of Women Voters of Rensselaer County has committed to taking a look at our organization and how we do business using the lens of DEI .
We joined the LWVNYS Diversity-Equity-Inclusion Project, led by Regina Tillman, 3rd Vice President, and as our League representative, I have completed the Leaderosity Course: Leader’s Guide to Social Equity. Included in the coursework were recorded speeches from leaders from a variety of diverse populations, suggested readings in books, newspapers, magazines, and interactive questions/answers with other participants. Also included are self assessments of implicit bias and reports around disability, gender and language being barriers to full participation in all aspects of a person’s life including membership in the League of Women Voters. My final assignment was to design an Organizational Equity Action Plan for our League. With the support of our Board of Directors, we have begun by adopting a DEI policy which more specifically defines Diversity. We will also be putting suggested books, articles, movies, music, etc. around DEI issues in the Voter. This process is designed to help our League be more receptive to the interests and needs of our diverse local community as we continue to work to assure all eligible voters the right to cast their vote in every election.
Initial book recommendations include the following. Please click for library availability. Titles may also be available to read digitally on Overdrive, Libby, and Hoopla Digital, with your library card.

Census 2020 Update
As of 9/10/2020, Rensselaer County had a self response rate of 63% and there is still time for self responses. The Census enumerators are also out knocking the doors of those who have not yet responded. They will work until 9/30 unless the courts insist that the counting continue until 10/31. This is the final push.
On October 8th at 7PM, the National League is presenting an event on Facebook:
