September Newsletter
Greetings!
September is here and with it comes, at least in our area of the world, longer nights and cooler days. Schools are ramping up the year and summer businesses are winding down. So much happens in September!

To highlight some disability-related events, September marks National Guide Dog Month. It is a time to celebrate guide and service dogs, recognize the amazing work they do, and raise awareness about guide dog schools.
This video to the right shows a person walking to Starbucks with her guide dog and the importance of working as a team. This mutual relationship built on trust is imperative for the success of any team. Please click here or the image above to watch the video.
International Week of Deaf People Logo
Another important observation is International Week of Deaf People on September 19-25, 2022, with a theme this year of Building Inclusive Communities for All. This week coincides with International Day of Sign Languages on September 23, 2022, whose theme is Sign Languages Unite Us! For more on the daily themes for this week, click here.

Please see our Disability Inclusion Calendar with more disability-related dates.

Each year, the Disability Equality Index (DEI) helps capture best practices from top-scoring companies that receive the recognition Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion™. These best practices enable a culture of inclusion that promotes increased self-identification, employees feeling truly welcomed to be their authentic selves, and innovation sparked by disability inclusion being built into participating companies’ products and services. Digital accessibility is about inclusion. It is the crucial quality of technology and content that enables people with disabilities to independently participate in the digital world. Captions on training videos and hiring portals that can be navigated without a mouse are just two examples of digital accessibility. Without accessibility, people with disabilities are excluded from the workplace, the marketplace, and the supply chain. Check it out the portal here.
