Hello Kinder Families,
We are learning about Kindness in Kindergarten this month. We have been discussing, “When is it important to show kindness.” Our very first story is a Fairy Tale, it is called, “The Elves and the Shoemaker.” We are also sorting and classifying objects in math. Reading is also a very important part of a child’s success in school, please continue to read to your child for at least 15 – 20 minutes each night.
1st Grade
Dear First Grade Parents,
Ms. Marele and I (Ms. Monica) are excited to welcome the newest member of our team…Ms. Grichelle! At the same time; equally saddened to say,“ We’ll see you on campus,” to Ms.Hailey” Ms. Hailey is a fantastic teacher whom we will miss greatly. We are confident that she will excel at any task she is given to learning. Back in First grade, we are moving to place value on math and continue working on teamwork, friendship, integrity, compassion, and responsibility. As a grade level, we are working hard to instill these types of characteristics to help our students grow and be successful in the world!
We are all available through Class Dojo. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask! We look forward to a fantastic year together!
Warmly,
Your First Grade Team,
Ms. Monica, Ms. Marele, and Ms. Grischelle
2nd Grade
Hello second-grade families,
We would like to welcome Ms. Karen Santos and Ms. Lady Mai Castillo to our MASSA family. For the last few weeks students have completed modules 1,2, and 3 of math. We covered fluency for addition and subtraction, equal groups, and data. In ELA we have been learning everything about inclusion and teamwork. In science class students are learning about weather, such as precipitation, clouds, and hurricanes, among others. We are having an awesome time making new friends and creating memories.
3rd Grade
In ELA we are starting our Extreme Weather. We will be working on our vocabulary and informative writing skills as we learn about seasons and the different types of weather they bring. In math, we are working hard to master multiplication facts in preparation for starting division.
4th Grade
Wow, quarter 1 is almost finished! In the last few months, we have already covered Modules 1-4 in our Into Math program. Those modules helped build our understanding of multiplication and division. In science, we are learning about weather and climate. We are getting very comfortable with using Chromebooks to take assessments and complete homework.
5th Grade
As we near the end of quarter 1, fifth grade is persevering and getting all of our work turned in. We've learned lab safety in science, are improving our mastery of multiplication facts in math, and can demonstrate how to cite evidence in ELA. We continue to model PAWS Expectations on campus and in the classroom. Thank you to all the families who came to our Open House. We loved meeting everyone!

This past week scholars participated in an interactive lecture, read and annotated a critical reading, conducted independent research, and participated in a student-run class-wide discussion on their unit topic. Next week scholars will discuss how what they are learning about the past affects how they see our present world, scholars will spend 3 days drafting and finalizing and piece of formal writing on their unit topic, and finally, scholars will be asked to make a professional visual representation of what they have learned.
MS ELA
This month, all of the ELA classes are focusing on the primary standards in their studies. They are concentrating on the concept of designating and explaining the Main Idea of their subject matter to prove thorough comprehension of the materials they are reading primarily informative texts. They are working hard and very diligently!
Interventions
In My Path classes, Math Interventionists are continuing to have data chats to share diagnostic results and set goals with students. In addition to data chats, we are facilitating MyPath classes by tracking students, encouraging them to work through their individual lessons, and intervening as we see fit with students who are struggling to grasp certain concepts. We work with students one-on-one and in small groups to bridge gaps in learning and correct misconceptions.
We are implementing our Unit Plans in our Re-Teach classes. Interventionists completed deep data digs and standards analysis to develop detailed intervention plans to support upcoming power standards. In these lessons, we are focusing on critical standards from previous grade levels that will prepare students for an upcoming grade-level standard.
Computer Science
5th grade is learning about how to stop and prevent cyberbullying as well as safe texting habits. 6th grade is coding a dance party video game and learning how to code pets to grow and move in code.org. 7th and 8th grade are learning how to write CSS to style their websites and how to prevent cyberbullying.
