Back to School!

There are times during the year when additional expenses or needs come up for families, such as back-to-school time. For parents who are already struggling financially, this puts an added burden and extra stress on them to provide school supplies for their children.

Fortunately, Project Readiness, who provides brand new backpacks filled with an abundance of school supplies and other items like tissues, hand wipes, and even a water bottle to those in need, assembled and donated backpacks for the young ones we serve.

Smiles were abound when each student received a new school backpack! Thank you Project Readiness for bringing excitement and joy to many children for their new school year!

America's Grow-a-Row

America's Grow-a-Row is a 423-acre farm in Pittstown, NJ that grows fresh vegetables and fruit solely to provide for people in need. Sparrow House had the opportunity to bring a team to the farm to enjoy a beautiful morning of harvesting eggplant. Along with other volunteers, we harvested 4,600 pounds of the vegetable! That equates to 19,000 servings! Sparrow House was gifted 20 boxes of the freshly picked eggplant to share with those we serve in Newark.

Check out this amazing farm that has four locations dedicated to donating to people experiencing food insecurity. We are so thankful to have taken part in harvesting fresh eggplant to pass on to those we serve!

Mountain Lakes Club

A tremendous thank you to the Mountain Lakes Club for donating an abundance of food items! After serving the Mountain Lakes community for 110 years, the Club closed its doors on September 2nd after its final operations over the Labor Day weekend.

Sparrow House had the honor and pleasure of receiving many, many food items that were stocked in the Club's kitchen. There has already been an incredible positive impact from the distribution of meals and nonperishable food from the Club to our friends in Newark who are struggling with food insecurity.

We wish the best to the Mountain Lakes Club owners for the new chapter they are beginning!

Panera Bread

A big thank you to Panera Bread, Basking Ridge for donating extra bread, bagels, and pastries every week for the folks we serve in Newark. What a treat it is for community members in need to have a delicious pastry, loaf of fresh bread, or bagels for breakfast! We appreciate the partnership and we are grateful for the wonderful support!
