Our Diversity Goals

AZA United's new Diversity Committee recently launched with several initiatives based on feedback that we received from community members. As an organization that was born with the objective to help all families, we strive every day to be inclusive, accessible and sensitive to the needs of our community, especially those that are undeserved. Staff members from many departments in the organization have joined our committee to be involved with making changes and enhancing our community impact. We would like to take this opportunity to share the mission and goals of our Diversity Committee with our stakeholders.

The Mission:
To collaborate with all departments to ensure that our organization’s overall practices are inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible for all.

Goals of the Diversity Committee:

  1. Create a new and improved internal diversity and cultural sensitivity training for all AZA employees.
  2. In collaboration with all AZA teammates involved in the hiring and retention process, identify activities that will result in finding diverse candidates for all positions.
  3. In collaboration with client families, community partners our clinical service teams, identify activities that will result in providing more services to diverse underserved populations.
  4. Create content to include in our communication channels to engage a diverse audience.
  5. Serve as a liaison for families, employees, and community members to discuss and accomplish new diversity initiatives as an organization.

We look forward to providing more updates as the committee makes progress toward each goal. Please contact us if you have any resources or ideas to share!

Support for Remote Learning

The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) announced on 9/8/2020 that Attendant Care and/or Nursing services can be used to help with remote learning to eligible children. While parents cannot be paid to provide services during remote learning times, the alternative of having a provider in the home to help the child with the intricacies of attending and participating in online instruction will be welcomed and appreciated by many. If you need help learning how to access Attendant Care services for this purpose, contact us.
Services All Over AZ

We are taking taking the first steps towards our expansion beyond Maricopa County. We have made available our simplified virtual process for parents anywhere in AZ to become Temporary Direct Care Workers, to provide Habilitation and Attendant Care services for their own children (if approved through DDD). To learn more, click here

We are also welcoming applicants all over Arizona that are referred by families to provide Respite, Habilitation and Attendant Care with their loved one.
Updates to AZ Systems of Care

Lots of things have changed regarding our systems of care in Arizona. We recently updated our Navigating Systems of Care blog with many important changes. This blog explains in detail how to access funding for services at different stages of a family's autism journey. It also contains resources that parents should be aware of to effectively advocate for their children.
