GOD'S WORK. OUR HANDS
This is our  opportunity to celebrate who we are as the ELCA  - one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Sunday, September 11:  We begin God's work. Our hands. with a Quilting Bee -
1:00 pm, Fellowship Hall.  Come join us for Christ-Style-Quilting for LWR.

Sunday, September 18: God's work. Our hands. Sunday has been changed to September 18th. Opportunites to serve our community are being planned and will be announced when finalized.

LUTHERAN DISASTER RESPONSE - GULF COAST FLOODING
We are all aware of the massive floodwaters that sweep across southern Louisiana recently. Lutheran Disaster Response is there to assist those in need.  Your gifts are needed.  Gifts designated for "Gulf Coast Flooding" will be used to assist those affected by the floodwaters.  You will find more information about support to help those affected by the Gulf Coast Flooding at the Heartline desk.

PORT OF HOUSTON CHRISTMAS BOX PROGRAM
Chartered in the late 1960's the Houston International Seafarers' Centers are a " home away " from home for  seafarers visiting the Port of Houston.  Christ Lutheran seeks to support the centers by donating Christmas shoeboxes packed full of items requested by the centers for the seafarers' from around the world.   A list of the items needed to fill your shoebox is available on the Heartline Desk.  Your shoebox should be packed, gift wrapped and delivered to church during September so the Christmas gift boxes can be delivered to the Seafarers' Centers in time for distribution before Christmas.  The Christmas boxes are personally carried to each ship by your staff of Port Chaplains-your staff because they are funded in part through your synod and Christ Lutheran Foundation in this ecumenical ministry.

CAPS FOR CANCER PATIENTS
Patterns are available at the Heartline for knitting, crocheting and sewing caps for cancer patients who lose their hair because of treatment. We will gather at the end of year  for our  annual Blessing of the Caps.  All caps will be donated to the American Cancer Society in Bryan.

WORLD HUNGER & WATER WELL #8
We are still raising up the ministries of World Hunger and the Water Well program. Please consider supporting one or both of the efforts. We are helping our Synod raise $500,000 for this year's world hunger project and we are well on our way to collecting enough to dig Well No. 8 in Africa. Your support is appreciated.

HUNGER
Canned and non perishable food donations in September will be donated to Bread Partners of Washington County. Please help by bringing your canned and non-perishable food items to the food table located in the narthex.

DAY SCHOOL NEWS
day schoo letterhead

It's not all about ABC's and 123's at the Day School.  Back to school for us also means learning vital social skills and developing self-esteem and confidence so that our kiddos have what it takes to be successful in learning and in life.

We are excited to start the new school year with an outstanding team of our own veterans and a few new faces as well.  We welcome Darlene Hertel and Paula Bartels to our Pre-K program and know that this will be an amazing year for those classrooms.  We look forward to new adventures in our outdoor classroom and gardens where we focus on making connections between children and God's natural world.  We will encourage faith formation by providing faith centers in our classrooms (thank you Vaughn family), and spending time each week in Chapel and Bible Buddies.  Children will enjoy extra-curricular  activities such as Art, Music, Cooking and Gymnastics.

And yes, we will throw in some ABC's and 123's just for good measure!  So wish us well and come see us some time!

In Christ,
Ginny Gaskamp
