September 2020 Newsletter
Welcome to the monthly news. There are many ways for you to connect with God and with our neighbors at LCOC and beyond. You are invited to share this news with new neighbors and others who may be interested in hearing what God is doing through the people and ministry of LCOC.
The planning for and kick off of the fall ministry opportunities looks and feels different this year as we continue to journey through this time of the pandemic. In years past, at the end of August/beginning of September, I would begin to anticipate the excitement and joy of returning to two services, starting Sunday education, and seeing people gather again after their many travels over the summer. This year feels different as I grieve the loss of not being able to gather in person for worship and Bible study. At the same time, I feel grateful and excited for the ways that we remain committed to these spiritual practices and to growing in our relationship with God and with others.
At this time, the LCOC council has decided to continue to worship via Zoom and YouTube Live with one service at 10 am on Sunday mornings and to have our Bible studies and other events on Zoom. When possible, we will have some special events that we will be outdoors. We are a work on progress and so I invite us all to be patient and flexible with each other as we experiment with different ways of gathering.

My prayer as we move into the fall is that through the opportunities at LCOC, you and others whom you invite, will grow your understanding of God’s Word, and provide ways for you to experience how much God loves YOU, and to BE the church as we care for others at and beyond LCOC!

Please read this newsletter for more details about upcoming ministry opportunities to Gather...Grow...Give...and Go! You are also invited to share ideas to

Pastor Darcy
LCOC Welcomes new Office Coordinator
My name is Noris Quintanilla. I am originally from El Salvador. I become a U.S citizen in 2009. I am married and I have two boys. I love spending time with my family and learning new things.
My dream has been to work in an office. To reach this goal, I became involved with Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA). I started as a student and based on my performance I was offered an office job as a volunteer. My experience with LVA included a 10-hour training to become a certified Tutor. Meanwhile I was a teacher assistant. Later, I applied and was accepted into Training Futures. There I furthered my knowledge for office skills. After six-months, I earned my certificate in Administrative Support. Now that I am working for Lutheran Church of the Covenant. I feel that my dream has come true. I am not just working in an office, I also feel that I can be someone meaningful to other people by spreading the Word of God.
Message from
Denise Wilder, Council President
September is upon us! Hard to believe, isn't it? School is already in session for many, whether virtually or in person. Cooler weather is just around the corner.

And our annual Rise Against Hunger event is also just around the corner - on September 26th to be exact. We will be assembling 30,000 meals which will be shipped far away to needy communities, most likely in South America.

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed funds toward the cost of the ingredients. Thanks go out to our church members as well as our community partners and the Woodbridge Rotary Club. The contributions are particularly gratifying since we were unable to conduct many of our typical fundraising events. Kudos!!!

This year's event will be different from past events, owing to Covid 19. Only about 30 people will be able to do the actual assembling to allow for appropriate physical distancing. Families are encouraged to participate, because the physical distancing is not as essential, particularly at the funnel station. We will require masks as well.

We expect to do 2 shifts of 15 people lasting 3 hours each. This could change, but if you're interested in being there, please contact me asap via email or text me at 540-841-4079. Also, please let me know if you prefer morning or afternoon.

As always, THANKS for being the church in the world.

Council President

Everybody should have a 90th birthday like mine! Birthday cards with wonderful inspiring messages, a parade of cars with balloons and sighs. It was an affirmation of faith and commitment from LCOC.
Thank you Stihl Cadets for the balloons and decorations, Thank you Brian for the pictures and thank you Pastor Darcy for your care and compassion for me and for all of us.
Through the grace of Jesus us shall all live on.
