A Message from the Mayor

Fall is here and school is back in session!

As our kids return to the classroom, let’s all work together to keep them safe. Drivers play a crucial role in keeping our school zones safe. Remember to, make eye contact when crossing, stop for school buses, watch for cyclists, listen to crossing guards and always watch for children. Safety is a team effort and together we can create safer school zones for everyone.

The City of Vaughan places the highest priority on public safety. Council and staff are committed to working with all partners to ensure our community continues to be a safe place to call home.

We have seen a dramatic more than 30 per cent reduction in auto theft incidents across Vaughan so far in 2024 compared to this time last year. Progress is being made with more advocacy to come.

IN THE NEWS

I welcome this announcement that the Province of Ontario is investing $35 million from the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund for vital city-building infrastructure here in Vaughan. This funding will help build more than 20,000 new homes in Vaughan to support our growing population.

A huge thank you to Premier Doug Ford, Minister David Piccini, and the Province of Ontario for their incredible investment in our city's future. The new LiUNA 183 Training Centre in Vaughan is set to be a game-changer, preparing nearly 50,000 new workers for exciting careers in construction across the GTA.

With over $26 million from the Skills Development Fund, this state-of-the-art facility will boost LiUNA 183's training capacity to almost 100,000 workers.

From bricklaying to heavy equipment operation, this investment ensures Vaughan and Ontario's economy will continue to thrive and grow.

As Vaughan continues to be one of Canada's fastest-growing cities, it's partnerships like these that help us manage growth and build a community where everyone can succeed. I'm excited to continue working alongside the provincial government, our dedicated Council, staff, and all of you to build a brighter future together.
