Happy 50th Birthday Skip-a-Long!

Last week, Skip-a-Long turned 50 years old! Started in 1970 by a group of concerned citizens, the first Skip-a-Long center cared for six children in the basement of a church. Since then we have grown to four child care centers, a home child care network, and have three other programs under our agency umbrella! We are so proud to be the leading child care provider in our area and continue to advocate for early care and education in our community and beyond.

To celebrate, we are holding a VIRTUAL Birthday Party! We will celebrate all we have achieved in the past 50 years, take a look at where we are now (including a peak into our 4 child care centers) and explore our visions for the future. We can't wait to celebrate with you!

Back to School...
Back to school time is always an adjustment for families, but even more so this year. There will be full-time remote learning or part-time remote learning and part-time sessions at school.  Families have to make the choice that works best for them. So if back to school is at your kitchen table or back in a classroom, here are some tips to make the transition smoother for the whole family.

  • Plan and implement a Back to School Schedule to set sleep schedules and practice bedtime and morning routines.
  • Discuss expectations and how things might look different at school. Create a daily schedule and stick to a routine.
  • Talk opening with your kids about their feelings and concerns about returning to school.
  • Let children help choose supplies and set up a dedicated area for school time.
  • Watch for any behavioral changes like excessive crying or irritation, excessive worrying or sadness, etc. which may be signs your child is struggling with stress or anxiety.
  • Identify opportunities for your child to connect with peers and be social.
Day of Giving and Hygiene Drive
On Monday, September 28th, we will be holding a Day of Giving and Hygiene Drive for Skip-a-Long! Hygiene items are much needed in our classrooms right now, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is all we could ask for for our 50th Birthday!
