Young Scholars started in 2015. This year, our school was due for a charter renewal. In June, The McKeesport Area School District approved our charter renewal application for the next 5 years. We are honored to continue serving our community.
Name Change
Young Scholars of McKeesport Charter School, being a tuition-free public school, serves students that reside in 12 districts across Allegheny County. To be more inclusive and represent all of our student population, we are happy to announce we have a name change in place: "Young Scholars of Greater Allegheny Charter School''.
Remote Learning
On August 6, 2020, the Administrative team presented the Young Scholars Reopening Plans to the Board of Trustees. Based on current circumstances and daily changes in the situation, the Young Scholars Board decided to continue remote learning when school resumes. YSGA will provide a full remote learning program for all students (K-8) for the first 9 weeks of school. Young Scholars will continue to monitor the health and safety of our community and anticipate transitioning to a hybrid model for the second quarter.
Our school remains prepared to transition to an in-person instruction (as soon as conditions permit), but we are currently constrained by public health guidelines and mandates. We worked diligently throughout the summer to create a plan that prioritizes the health and safety of our students and staff. Just like most other school districts, we had to revise our plans multiple times during the summer.

Teacher Summer Institute
Remote learning was a new experience for most of us since March 2020. YSGA was able to deliver a solid remote instruction for the spring semester. For the 2020-21 school year, we have invested in new technology and a 1:1 device initiative. We have provided extensive training on the programs. We hope to provide the young scholars with a pleasant online learning experience
Back To School Night
This year, due to social distancing regulation we had online back-to-school night. We have a recorded version for families who were not able to join the live sessions.
Kindergarten students were able to visit the school and pick up their school supplies. We were very happy to meet and greet the newly joined young scholars.
First Day of the School
On August 31, 2020, our teachers and admin team met young scholars online. We had a great turn out on the first day of the school. The family support team has provided all types of support for our students and parents to make sure everyone was able to get their assigned classes.
