2024 House of Delegate Meeting

To ensure a more relaxed and productive House of Delegates meeting, we will be holding our annual meeting virtually on Sept. 17 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. All IACTE members are encouraged to attend. Delegates have been selected, and we are eager to include them in discussions and voting. The Zoom link can be found on our new IACTE Events Calendar.

ISBA & ISCA Conferences 2024 Vendor Help Wanted

In our ongoing effort to highlight the value of Iowa ACTE and career and technical education (CTE) across the state, IACTE Executive Director Kristen Bandy would love for students, teachers, and/or CTSO sponsors to join her at one or both of the following conferences in November:

Iowa School Counselors Association Conference

Date: Monday, Nov. 4

Location: Iowa Events Center/Hy-Vee Hall, Des Moines

Iowa Association of School Boards Annual Convention & Trade Show

Date: Thursday, Nov. 21

Location: Iowa Events Center, Des Moines

We are seeking classroom activities, success stories, and new initiatives, as well as CTSO events that students or sponsors would like to share. Cross-curricular events involving CTE groups are especially of interest to the counseling community! You can choose to attend the entire vendor fair or opt for a morning, afternoon, or evening shift. Feel free to participate whenever you and your students are available.

IACTE Conference 2024 Update

A quick update on the 2024 Iowa ACTE Conference Thank you so much to those of you who attended. If you could not attend, you were missed! We had a great day, with lots of learning and networking opportunities.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the planning committee, Doralene Abdel-Halim, Sandy Warning, Laura VanWaardhuizen and Cale Hutchings, for their dedication to the planning of the conference. If you have great ideas or suggestions for topics or speakers for next year's conference, please reach out!!

Next year's conference is set for June 18, 2025 at Prairie Meadows Conference Center in Altoona. IFCSE has set their date and location to coordinate with IACTE as has the CTSO student leaders training held yearly. Please add this date to your calendar!

Conference Recap: Iowa ACTE Conference 2024

Date and Location

The Iowa ACTE 2024 conference, held on June 17 at the new location of Prairie Meadows Conference Center, was a resounding success. The center's vibrant atmosphere and state-of-the-art facilities provided the perfect backdrop for an event focused on CTE in Iowa. The IACTE conference planning committee has never experienced the professionalism, prompt and personal help on any issue that arose during the day, provided by Prairie Meadows employees.

Culinary Delights

Attendees were treated to an array of culinary delights throughout the conference. From hot breakfast sandwiches to a beautiful and delicious lunch buffet, making sure there was something for everyone.

Memorable Tours

Prairie Meadows also offered wonderful tours that allowed attendees to explore parts of their establishment that pertained to CTE careers. Several positive comments about job and career opportunities for students were heard:

Agriculture

Emphasis: Track Maintenance, Backside of Live Racing, and TV Operations

Business

Emphasis: Information Technology, Casino Cash Operations, and Casino Marketing

Family Consumer Sciences

Emphasis: Hotel, Event Center, and Kitchen

Industrial Tech (Canceled due to an emergency, but many attendees said the topic was well covered as they joined the culinary group)

Emphasis: Security & Emergency Personnel and Facilities Management

The conference featured an impressive lineup of sessions and speakers, falling within four important strands in striving for high quality CTE Departments across the state.

Conclusion

Iowa ACTE Conference 2024 was a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and inspiration. Attendees left with new knowledge, valuable connections, and unforgettable memories. The combination of cutting-edge sessions, remarkable speakers, delicious food, and exciting tours made this conference a standout event. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year's conference!
