A family skiing at the VOS 2025 Conference in Breckenridge CO

Register and Book Your Lodging Now for the VOS 2026 Conference in Big Sky, Montana!

Dear VOS Members,

Happy September, VOS! As we shift into fall and look ahead to Big Sky, a quick heads-up: registration and lodging are moving faster than in past years. If you’re planning to join us (which you obviously should be!), please register and book your room now to secure your spot and preferred accommodation.

Additionally, see below for deadlines for abstract and grant submissions — they’re approaching quickly. We want to showcase your best science and support your next study, so please get those materials in on time.

Your Board of Directors will meet at ACVS in October to put the finishing touches on the 2026 meeting and program. Is there anything you want us to know or discuss? Send your ideas, questions, or concerns to me or Heidi DeCamp — your input shapes this organization.

Thank you to everyone who attended the CCL Registry webinar and shared thoughtful feedback in the survey. At this time, based on the results of the survey and pledged support, VOS will not move forward as the primary sponsor to develop a U.S. version of the registry. That said, our U.K. colleagues will continue to pursue funding opportunities with other organizations and we are hopeful the VOS will be able to help introduce the Registry to the U.S. in the future.

Finally, a program update for 2026: in addition to our Jacques Jenny Lecturer, Dr. Rachel Frank, who will continue the tradition of highlighting the human–veterinary orthopedic interface and sharing her latest research (presenting Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday), we’ll also celebrate our members’ outstanding translational contributions with a new invited role — our Keynote Speaker (formal title forthcoming). I am thrilled that Laurie Goodrich, DVM, PhD, DACVS-LA, Professor of Orthopedics and Director of the Orthopedic Research Center at Colorado State University, will serve in this inaugural capacity, presenting her research into bone and joint healing.

Dr. Kristin Kirkby Shaw

Thank you for everything you do for the VOS community — see you in Big Sky!

Sincerely,

Kristin Kirkby Shaw, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVS (SA), DACVSMR
