Minou Roufail Appointed to VP of the AFH Board!!


Minou Roufail has been involved with the Alliance Française de Hartford for 6 years, both as a student and board member, and is honored to now serve as vice-president. Her background is in dance, English, and museum studies.

The Battle of Algiers


Co-presented by Alliance Française de Hartford and the Wadsworth Atheneum


The Battle of Algiers is a 1966 Italian-Algerian war film co-written and directed by Gillo Pontecorvo. It is based on action undertaken by rebels during the Algerian War (1954–1962) against the French government in North Africa, the most prominent being the eponymous Battle of Algiers, the capital of Algeria. It reconstructs Algeria's fight for independence, exposing colonialism, memory, and the struggle for sovereignty.

Yoga en Français Avec L’Alliance Française

De Hartford




Venez vous détendre en pratiquant avec aisance et confiance de simples postures de Hatha Yoga inspirées et transmises par mon père qui, du haut de ses quatre-vingt cinq ans, continue à transmettre la philosophie de vie qu’ est le yoga par l’ intermédiaire des asanas. Yoga veut dire union – du corps et de l’ esprit. Le second verset des Sutras de Patanjali, ancien philosophe et sage indien, dit en sanskrit “Yogas chitta vritti nirodha” – “Le yoga est la cessation des fluctuations du mental”. Véronique vous invite à partager cette pratique avec elle.


Véronique Subrizi pratique le yoga depuis l’âge de 16 ans et a participé a de nombreux stages de Hatha Yoga en France et aux Etats-Unis. Elle a entre autres pratique l’Ashtanga yoga et le Kundalini yoga. Elle continue de pratiquer régulièrement chez elle et dans divers studios de Simsbury, Avon et Providence.

Le Barman du Ritz

Philippe Collin



"Le Barman du Ritz" is a historical fiction novel by Philippe Collin about Frank Meier, a real-life bartender at the Ritz Hotel in Paris during World War II. The book, set in 1940, explores Meier's experiences navigating the German occupation and the changing clientele of the hotel. It delves into themes of compromise, opportunism, and the complexities of life during wartime. 


Silvia Bettega will lead the discussion of this book. We will also set the calendar for the rest of the year.

Monet's Minutes


Professor André Dombrowski, author, in Conversation at Hill-Stead Museum

We all know how time impacts our lives today…we never seem to have enough time to do all that we want. The book Monet’s Minutes, Impressionism and the Industrialization of Time explores the evolution of timekeeping during the Impressionist era. Hill-Stead will be hosting a discussion with the author, Professor André Dombrowski. The event will begin with a short presentation by the author followed by a public conversation between him and Oliver O’Donnell, Hill-Stead’s Resident Art Historian. Questions from the audience will be welcomed at the end. The evening will conclude with a reception of wine and cheese.

How French Brought Me From Connecticut to Switzerland

Presentation by Annette Fay


Annette will share how learning the French language first in Connecticut and later in France lead to her interest and work in Francophone West Africa. She will speak about her international development work in West Africa over the past twenty years and how she ended up in Switzerland. She will share observations of the different cultures she has gotten to know well (including a few lessons learned!).


Annette Fay, originally from Enfield, Connecticut, is an expert in international development who specializes in research, monitoring and evaluation of water and sanitation projects. She has worked in more than a dozen African countries, as well as France, and is presently living in Switzerland.
