NASSAN'S PLACE IN THE NEWS

NASSAN'S PLACE IMPACT

Article written by Annual Community Appreciation Attendee,

Traci Green

On October 3rd of 2024, I had the immense pleasure of attending Nassan’s Place’s Annual Community Appreciation Gala, a fundraising event supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. The city’s finest gathered for a night of inspiration and generosity at the Galloping Hill Golf Club, where leaders, advocates, media professionals, and supporters were celebrated for their contributions to the community and their dedication to spreading autism awareness.

The spirit of the evening perfectly encapsulated the passion of Nadine Wright-Arbubakkr – the founder and Executive Director of Nassan’s Place. She believes in recognizing specialness and potential within every individual with autism. Guests were treated to a festive evening, starting with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner, an inspiring awards presentation, and dancing.

It was inspiring to see so many come together in support of a cause so close to my heart. I, a mother of two autistic sons, know all too well the importance of spreading awareness about autism and the challenges faced by the families in this community. According to the CDC, in 2023, 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with autism. It is imperative now, more than ever that we, as a society, begin creating pathways for success for these individuals as they make up a significant portion of the overall population.

As the evening ended, I left with a renewed sense of purpose and hope. The Annual Community Appreciation Gala serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of building a more inclusive world for everyone, especially those with autism. As Nassan’s Place continues its effort, the hard work and commitment showcased by the honorees who support this organization will go a long way in supporting individuals with autism and their families, helping them thrive as part of the community.
