Eileen's Lessons - September/October 2016

One day last year my son came home from school very upset. He said one of his teachers told the class that there is no reason for anyone to get a grade lower than an A in her class. Well, my son, who already had set the high expectation of an A on himself, was currently tracking towards a B in that class and he was devastated by the announcement.

Did the teacher really say that? What is a parent to do? Fortunately, parent teacher conferences were around the corner and I decided to use that time to discuss the matter with the teacher.

Employee vs. Independent Contractor

The Department of Labor ("DOL") has stated that they see the misclassification of employees as independent contractors as one of "the most serious problems facing the economy". As a result, the DOL has increased enforcement of independent contractor rules at both the national and state level and have created a " Misclassification Initiative".
