Get ready for the 2024 grant application

As in years past, the Grants Team dedicated considerable time over the summer to reviewing our most recent grants cycle to determine what worked and where new tweaks might be made. Instrumental to this process is Caitlin Van Orden, our new Grants Co-Chair, who brings a fresh perspective and practical insights from her own extensive work in the nonprofit community.

To our nonprofit friends: Please note that our timeline has changed. The 2024 grant application will open on November 9, 2023 and close on January 12, 2024. Click HERE for a link to important dates.

In addition, in our quest to attract more applications, especially those from the grassroots organizations working closest to the issues we care about, we’ve modified our eligibility criteria this cycle to allow certain organizations to apply through a fiscal sponsor. The idea behind this is that while many small grassroots organizations are best suited to understand and respond to community problems, they don’t necessarily have the time or resources to invest in becoming a tax-exempt organization. A fiscal sponsor acts as an intermediary, essentially lending its tax-exempt status to the sponsored organization, and providing critical management and oversight capabilities so the sponsored organization can focus on project implementation.

We are excited about the partnership we are developing with Spur Local, formerly The Catalogue for Philanthropy, in order to learn more about the needs of our nonprofit community partners and how best we can support them through our grantmaking. We were delighted to welcome Executive Director Matt Gayer and Board Chair Cari Rudd as featured speakers at our September 30 Board retreat. We look forward meeting their new class of featured nonprofits throughout the DMV at their Community Changemakers event on November 8th.

Celebrating our Members

Impact100 DC Fellow Mayu Molina Lehmann's musical, Monarch: A Mexican American Musical, opens on October 5th for its East Coast premiere at Creative Cauldron in Falls Church and runs through October 29th. Monarch follows the journey of dreamers and undocumented immigrants who live and work in this country, but still must remain in the shadows. "I hope this play helps humanize undocumented immigrants and show them not as a threat but rather as what they are: immigrants searching for a better life for their families, like countless immigrants who have come to this country searching freedom and safety," stated Ms Lehmann.

Monarch Tickets are $20 - $50 and are available online or through the Creative Cauldron Box Office 703-436-9948.
