President's Letter

Welcome back to the 2025-26 school year! As always, we start off with a bang: Back-to-School Nights, Welcome Coffees, Home and School Clubs, Gallery 24 Mixer, Member Meeting, Scientific Illustration, Info Coffee, and, yes, Training! Don’t be misled into thinking print presentations don’t start until October so there’s nothing to do!

Someone who hasn’t stopped all summer, is Ros! When you step into the Docent Office this year, you will notice a lot of changes. Not only are the new print cabinets seamlessly installed, but everything behind every cabinet is sorted, organized, and labeled. Please make sure to come to our 1st Member Meeting of the year, 9/9 at 8:30a, for the grand tour!

Unearthed during this renovation and upgrade, were a set of incredible photo albums (Yes! 35mm film with the peel-and-stick plastic lay over!). What better way to get excited to jump back into the classroom than a little reminder of the longevity of our organization! We’ll have some out on display for our Member Meeting; just another reason to mark your calendar!

7th Grade Scientific Illustration starts Sept 10th

As part of the Sunshine/Appreciation Committee’s Mission In 2025-26 we are going to show recognition for the contribution by one or more docents each month with a write-up in the Palette Newsletter.

This month we are delighted to shine the spotlight on Ros Edmonds, one of our most dedicated docents and a true cornerstone of our organization. Ros has been an Art Docent since 2009, and over the years has worn many hats, including serving as President and now as our Parliamentarian. She also leads our Curriculum Committee, ensuring our lessons remain current and engaging for students.

Beyond teaching, Ros has gone above and beyond in caring for our organization. This past summer, she spearheaded a complete remodel and reorganization of the Art Docent office. She spent countless hours sorting through decades of materials, clearing out items that were no longer needed, and overseeing the installation of custom cabinetry. Thanks to her vision and hard work, every grade now has a dedicated, organized space for its prints and workshop materials—an incredible gift that will benefit our program for years to come.

We are deeply grateful for Ros’s leadership, passion, and tireless dedication. She embodies the spirit of what it means to be an Art Docent, and we are fortunate to have her in our community.
