Fall Art Exhibit

Distance by V. Bruce

Bring It All Back by Veronica Bruce

The fall art exhibit features work by Hinsdale native and local artist, Veronica Bruce. The exhibit includes work that shows an awareness of creating space through the physical. Bruce's photo paintings give insight into the creation of her sculptural process. Each piece enthusiastically engages the viewer with color and energy. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular Library hours September 6 through November 30.

Veronica Bruce has pursued the practice of painting from an early age, beginning in the basement of her Hinsdale home. Her life-long pursuit has led her into multiple disciplines ranging from painting to sculpture to installations to, most recently, video.

Over the past few years she has shown her work in Chicago at Julius Caesar, Robert Bills Contemporary, the Nevica Project, Park Schreck Gallery and Casa Duno. Her work can also be found in DePaul University's permanent collection.

Banned Books Week

September 30-October 6Banned Books Week

Library materials are often challenged as a way to protect others from difficult ideas and information. However, it is our own right to choose books freely for ourselves. Each year the American Library Association's Office of Intellectual Freedom records hundreds of attempts to have books removed from libraries and schools.

Have you ever read a "banned book"?? Did you love it? Would you recommend it? Are you surprised that the Harry Potter series made the list of the 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of the Decade? Celebrate the freedom to read during our Banned Books Week writing contest! Your winning entry could be the key to freeing a collector's edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling which will be "locked up" in the Youth Services Display Case.

  • Readers of all ages and families, tell us why you love Harry Potter or would recommend the series to a friend.

  • Entries will be read by a panel of judges and then posted.

  • The grand prize winner will receive the collector's item and 3 runners-up will receive a cool HP prize.

  • Entry forms available September 24- October 6 in Youth Services.
