THANK YOU to several new sponsor partners (please read below!). If you would like to sponsor the Book It 5K or know a business or individual who would like to do so, please contact us at: bookitforbooks@gmail.com.
Why are individuals and businesses sponsoring Book It?
For many, it's all about family and the love of reading!
RIF of NOVA board member Chris McLaughlin says "I’ve always believed that one of the greatest gifts to give to my children is the amazing gift of loving to read." Her grandson Colin has gotten the message! Here he is, reading Click, Clack, Moo to baby cousins Jonathan and Isabella, while moms Maureen and Gaby look on. Such rapt attention from the little ones!
Board member Sheila Jonas and husband John Jonas are sponsoring Book It For Books in honor of their grandson Coplan -- who is a big book lover! In this photo, Cope reads The Runaway Bunny with his best friend, "Baby Einstein." Because...reading is always so much more fun with a friend!
The Keathley-Berube family is sponsoring in celebration of new grand-nephew, Mars Hunt Rivera. Mars's parents, Kasie and Matt, have always been voracious readers. Kasie's favorite books as a child? The Boxcar Children , and later, anything Star Wars! Matt liked the Choose Your Own Adventure series. No doubt their new little guy will have lots of books to read!
Cavalier Logistics president and CEO Tim Holdaway sponsored the Book It 5K in 2016, and he's sponsoring again -- because promoting literacy is "such a good cause." At the age of 10, Tim discovered that his cab-driver granddad couldn't read. "A hard-working guy, he knew every road by heart," Tim says, "but he couldn't read the words on a map." Tim notes that his sponsorship is both a tribute to his grandfather and an investment in the future. Thank you again, Tim and Cavalier Logistics !!!
Jackie Barchesky is the owner of For Pet's Sake, a pet grooming studio in Alexandria. As a child, Jackie had no books at home. "None, not even a newspaper," she said, when asked about sponsoring Book It For Books. She was delighted to sponsor in order to give other children the chance to have books at home. Despite a tough beginning, Jackie (shown here grooming Sabrina) has become a successful business owner. For Pet's Sake is a wonderful place to coif your favorite canines and felines!
Whole Dogz owners Mary and Patrick Kenkle became sponsors of Book It for books in memory of a special dog in their lives. Halle Berry passed away with brain cancer earlier this year. It was a blow to all who knew Halle, but the spirit of this little sprite is being passed on with a sponsorship to RIF of NOVA -- so more children can read! Maybe some of them will pick out books about dogs! Thank you, Whole Dogz...a great place for doggie day care and boarding (and grooming, too)! (Photo: Ben Jonas)
