ESPERANZA HEALTH CENTER E-NEWS

September 2022

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16th and September 18th, respectively.

CHURCHWIDE BABY SHOWER FOR ESPERANZA

Sponsored by Grace Point Church's Womens Ministry

We are so grateful to Grace Point church for all their work in coordinating and planning a Baby Shower on behalf of our prenatal patients at Esperanza Health Center. Sponsored by Grace Point's Women's Ministry team, the baby shower ran from July through the end of August. An abundance of items were purchased and donated, including: 40 quilts made by the Women's Ministry Quilters, 7 blankets made by the Women's Outreach & Fellowship, 24 additional crocheted hats and blankets made by others in the church, and many other items for newborns including car seats, pack-n-plays, baby clothes, diapers, and also children's Bibles and books.

We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Grace Point's congreagation and all who contributed towards the bounty of gifts received for our new moms and their newborns. The supplies are an enormous blessing to us. We are grateful for our partnership with Grace Point church and the continued prayers for all of us at Esperanza Health Center!

Farewell, Pastor Miguel Diaz

After 9 years of faithful ministry to the Esperanza community, Pastor Miguel Diaz is set to retire from his position as Chaplain at the end of September. Pastor Miguel played an integral role in starting EHC's Volunteer Chaplaincy Program in 2013, which has trained seven classes of over 55 individuals in chaplaincy work since its inception. Upon retiring, Pastor Miguel will continue his work as lead Pastor of Iglesia Mundial La Gran Comision in the Tioga neighborhood of Kensington, a church he planted in 2013. We are grateful to God for the spiritual leadership Pastor Miguel has provided to our staff, patients, and community throughout these 9 years. May God bless you and keep you, Pastor!

Flu Shots Available at EHC

Flu vaccines are now available at EHC for all our patients 6 months and older! Getting a vaccine is one of the best ways to protect yourself against flu viruses. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, health experts strongly advise that you get the flu vaccine to protect yourself and others, to reduce the strain on the healthcare system, and to minimize the possibility of getting COVID-19 and the flu at the same time.
