September Riverscape

From The Riverkeeper

Hello Willamette Friends -
People always ask us, "well, don't things slow down as you get through the Summer and into the Fall?" Oh, if only that were so!
It seems these days our programs are fully engaged nearly year-round. The last three months saw us getting hundreds of people on the Willamette River in canoes and kayaks to see and experience it, including completing our 18th Paddle Oregon event! It also saw us conducting some major freshwater mussel studies and surveys with our partners. We have also been digging in at multiple sites conducting habitat restoration, and cleaning up areas full of garbage and debris. Further, we've been stewarding our own properties as well.
On top of these actives, our staff are involved in multiple projects, from policy issues related to riverside development, investigation of confined animal feeding operations, to the ongoing issues surrounding the Portland Harbor Superfund site. The only way we accomplish this work is by having an excellent team and a cadre of awesome volunteers.
If you are a WR supporter, you should know that it is my feeling WR gets more done for the Willamette ounce per ounce than any other organization. I say this knowing that there are some great partners out there - but here I want to recognize our intrepid crew who works day in and day out for the River. So, thank you Kate, Heather, Marci, Michelle and Richard for your ongoing dedication!
Again, a huge thanks to those of you who spend time with us in the field, actively supporting our team and our mission on behalf of the river! We are very grateful, and many of you are regular contributors, whether it is via invasive weed surveys, or assisting us with Paddle Oregon. If you don't have time to volunteer, consider making a monthly or other financial contribution to Willamette Riverkeeper. We will make those funds count!

See you on the river.

Volunteers Needed- Saturday, 10/6

The Great Willamette Clean Up is a river-wide, community day of action. Volunteers participate by canoe, kayak, SUP board, raft, motor boat, drift boat, bike, and foot to free our river of trash and debris while improving habitat and community spirit along the way.

Cleanup sites are posted throughout the basin, and are searchable via our on-line registration. Several regions host post-cleanup celebrations that include lunch, local frothy beverages, raffles, gifts and "trash-talk."  You won't want to miss this! Click on the registration button below.
