- From the Assessor's Office- State Veterans Exemptions If you are a veteran or an active duty service member but are not currently receiving a veteran's exemption, the first step is to file your DD-214 with the Town Clerk's Office. Your DD-214 must be filed by September 30th in order to receive the exemption beginning with the October 1st Grand List. If you are not able to locate your DD-214 discharge paperwork, you may request a copy by at www.archives.gov/veterans.
-If you served during a recognized period of combat,

-------you could be entitled to an assessment reduction. If
--------you are a veteran who is disabled, you may be
-----eligible for an increased exemption. A recent letter from the Veteran's Administration that indicates the
---disability percentage must be presented in order to receive the increased exemption.
Business Owners - Personal Property
All persons conducting business in the Town of Kent are required to return to the Assessor’s Office, on or before November 1, 2019, a complete and accurate Declaration of all tangible Personal Property used in the conduct of their business as of the first day of October 2019. All business assets include, but are not limited to: manufacturing and industrial machinery and equipment; office fixtures, furniture, equipment and supplies; farm machinery and tools; tools of your trade; electronic data and processing equipment.
All horses, ponies, unregistered motor vehicles, vehicles registered out of state that are garaged in Kent and leased equipment located in the Town of Kent are taxable, whether they are a business asset or a personal asset.
Any business or individual required to file a declaration may obtain the proper form from the Assessor’s Office. Declarations will be mailed out in September. Failure to receive a form by mail does not excuse a property owner from filing.
Filing Deadlines
· Blind, Disabled and Veteran’s Exemption: October 1, 2019
· Farm Land and Open Space: October 31, 2019
· Forest Land: October 31, 2019, the Certified Forester’s report must be dated no later than October 1, 2019
· 2018GL Motor Vehicle converted to adapt a disability: December 31, 2019
· 2018GL Motor Vehicle Exemption for Active Duty Members of the Armed Forces: December 31, 2019
- From Kent Social Services - Renter’s Rebate Program: If you are a senior 65+ or a person with a disability, and pay rent for an apartment, a cooperative, congregate housing, subsidized housing, or for a rooming house, you may be eligible for this program. The application period is April 1 to October 1, 2019. The rebate amount you may receive is based on a graduated income scale and the amount of rent and utility payments you made in the PRIOR year (2018). Income limits: single person $36,000.00; married couple $43,900. Those that apply must meet at least one of the following criteria: Individual or spouse must be 65 years of age or older as of December 31, 2018. Renter must be 50 years of age or older and the surviving spouse of a renter who at the time of death had qualified and was entitled to this program (provided the couple was living together at the time of death). Renter must be 18 years of age or older who is permanently and totally disabled under Social Security Disability guidelines. All Renters must have resided in the State of Connecticut for at least one year at any given time. To schedule an appointment, contact Leah Pullaro, Kent Social Services 860-927-1586.

ark & Recreation
After-School Program: the program, open to youngsters entering kindergarten through sixth grade, meets at Kent Center School weekdays, 3 to 5:30 p.m., following the KCS calendar. The program features homework and snack times, arts and crafts and games. The cost is $11/child/day. Limited scholarship assistance available courtesy of the Kent Community Fund.

After-School Program counselor: Kent Park and Recreation is accepting applications for counselor to work at the After-School Program for the 2019-2020 school year, following the Kent Center School calendar. Program meets Monday-Friday, 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Kent Center School. Details and job application available at

Senior Activities
Friday Senior Lunch: the program resumes September 13 at the Kent Senior Center, Swifts Lane. The program is offered in cooperation with Kent, Marvelwood and South Kent Schools and Kent restaurants. The cost is $2/person. The center opens at 11:30 a.m., and the meal is served at noon. For more information, call 860-927-1003.
Memory Garden planting: The annual planting in the Memory Garden at Kent Common Park is Friday, Sept. 20 at 1:15 p.m. in the park, Swifts Lane. Join us to honor the memory of those who have died in the past year at a tribute planting and also to read the names of those previously honored.
Goodspeed Opera House trip: Seats still available for the October 9 trip to Goodspeed Opera House to “Billy Elliot” Celebrate the idea of being yourself in the Goodspeed premiere of this powerful dance-filled story. The outing includes transportation via the Northwest Connecticut
Transit District bus, lunch at Gelston House and ticket to the 2 p.m. performance. The bus will pick-up at Sharon Town Hall and Kent Town Hall (times to be announced). The cost is $95/person. Seating is limited and reservations are required by calling Lesly Ferris, 860-927-1003.
Save the Date: seasonal flu vaccination clinic is October 21, 10 a.m. to noon at Kent Town Hall.

The Kent Transfer Station
New passes are now required. The yellow one is expired and the brown one is in place. Purchase at Town Hall or the Transfer Station. Don't use the Transfer Station? This is a perfect time to make the switch from curbside pickup and join the growing number of residents using the transfer station.
Only $150 for the year, $135 for all of us over 65. And we take almost everything.
