Eco-Friendly Tips of the Month
Chuck Golden

Each month, as part of this newsletter, I will continue to share with you my ideas and thoughts that may work for you as you strive to be more environmentally sustainable.

How Can A Subaru Retailer That Is

Environmentally Sustainable Align With

Consumer Values For Today’s Buyers?

In 2025, environmentally sustainable retailers aren’t just checking a box—they’re tapping directly into evolving consumer values. Here's how that alignment plays out:

Why Sustainability Resonates With Today’s Buyers

1. Eco-Conscious Mindset Is Mainstream

  • 67% of Americans believe EVs are better for the environment.
  • Millennials and Gen Z—who now dominate car-buying demographics—actively support phasing out internal combustion engines by 2035.
  • Buyers increasingly seek fuel-efficient, electric, or hybrid vehicles, even in the used market.

2. Trust and Transparency Matter

  • Consumers are shifting away from brand loyalty and toward value-driven choices.
  • A retailer that showcases its sustainability efforts—like solar panels, EV charging stations, or recycling programs—signals credibility and community alignment.

Practical Moves Build Consumer Trust

1.  Low-Cost, High-Impact Tactics

  • LED lighting, low-flow water fixtures, and recycling bins show commitment without major investment.
  • Switching to energy-efficient laptops or conducting energy audits can reduce costs and boost your green credentials.

2.  High-Visibility Upgrades

  • EV charging stations and solar panels are not just functional—they’re marketing assets.
  • Promoting these features in multilingual outreach (like many of you are doing) can build inclusive trust across diverse communities.

3.  Digital Transparency

  • Online listings that include vehicle emissions data, EV range, or sustainability ratings help buyers make informed choices.
  • Integrating real-time market data and eco-certifications into your digital platforms enhances credibility.

We will be providing more on “Why It Matters to Market Sustainability” and want to hear your thoughts for future communications. Please share your ideas. E-mail me at chuck@greendealersupport.com or reply to this e-mail with your information. Be sure to include pictures whenever possible.

Southern Oregon Subaru -- Medford, OR

Earth Day 2025

Southern Oregon Subaru, in Medford, OR, proudly participated in Earth Day this past April by giving away plants and shrubs at The Farm at SOU (Southern Oregon University) in nearby Ashland, OR. Rocky Rawstern, Digital Media Manager and Green Team Leader at SOSubaru, describes the event as follows:

"Southern Oregon Subaru was proud to return to The Farm at SOU this Earth Day, sharing our commitment to a greener planet with thousands of joyful attendees. Despite the wet weather, our Digital Media Manager and Green Team Leader, Rocky Rawstern, and Delivery Specialist, Cole Hancock, showed up with big smiles, warm hearts, and hundreds of plants and shrubs to give away. Together, we celebrated sustainability, community, and the Subaru lifestyle—one that takes us deeper into nature and closer to each other. We made many new friends, heard incredible adventure stories from longtime Subaru owners and helped put a little more green into the world—one plant at a time. Because loving the Earth isn’t just what we do on Earth Day—it’s who we are, year-round."

The Farm at Southern Oregon University stands as a beacon of sustainable agriculture, offering students and the local community an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the land. This dynamic initiative not only cultivates a diverse array of crops but also embodies the principles of organic farming and environmental stewardship. With hands-on learning experiences, students gain invaluable skills while contributing to research on soil health and sustainable food systems. The farm's commitment to providing fresh, locally-grown produce through its farm stand and CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program makes it a cornerstone of the community, fostering a deeper connection between people and their food. Through workshops, farm-to-table events, and collaborations with local organizations, The Farm at SOU actively promotes community engagement and advocates for sustainable food initiatives, establishing itself as a vital resource for both students and the local community.

Holmgren Subaru -- North Franklin, CT

Connecticut Cleanup

Holmgren Subaru, in North Franklin, CT, is involved in many aspects of Subaru Loves the Earth and willingly lends a hand in promoting this campaign. A recent endeavor was their participation in the Save the Sound/Connecticut Cleanup, this time at Esker Point Beach in nearby Groton. According to Eric Holmgren, owner of Holmgren Subaru, "We are committed to minimizing our environmental impact through a number of ongoing initiatives that directly support sustainability and community involvement. These initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and our desire to make a positive, tangible impact both within our operations and in the community. Each year we organize a coastal cleanup event at a nearby beach. This hands-on effort engages our team and community members in protecting local marine environments and promoting environmental awareness."

The Connecticut Cleanup is a comprehensive program designed to restore contaminated sites, revitalize natural habitats, and enhance community spaces, creating a healthier ecosystem for all. By fostering collaboration among local governments, organizations, and citizens, Connecticut is not only addressing pollution but also inspiring a culture of environmental stewardship and community engagement.
