The United States paused on Monday in an annual tribute to the contributions our nation’s workers make to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Among that workforce are 2.9 million individuals employed directly or indirectly by the cable industry, including 151,527 in Texas who are making a $22.6 billion economic impact in our state. That number is only expected to grow, which is good news for cable customers and for those looking for a career in the industry.
Walt Baum has been named president of the Texas Cable Association (TCA) after a search by the TCA Board of Directors. Baum will take the helm at TCA on Sept. 17. He most recently has been executive director of the Texas Public Power Association (TPPA) since December 2015.
For the first time in 17 years, a cable network didn’t lead the Emmy nominations, but don’t count out cable programmers when the envelopes are opened and the winners revealed later this month.
Charter Spectrum continuing to support Hurricane Harvey victims

Starting last month, Charter Spectrum is providing nearly 400 Safe & Healthy Home kits, each valued at $100, to those affected by Hurricane Harvey which devastated the Gulf Coast last year. Customers can go to the Corpus Christi Spectrum store and get a kit, even if they are not a Spectrum customer.

Charter Spectrum created the kits in partnership with Rebuilding Together and Lowe’s. The contents are in line with the principles of healthy homes, developed by the National Center for Healthy Housing, and endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General. The kits include a smoke alarm, weather radio, flashlight, first aid kit, caulk, gloves, cleansers and more.

Charter Spectrum had pledged $1.35 million toward recovery assistance in the Texas Gulf coast, and has already exceeded that amount through free Public Service Announcements and monetary donations.
