Dear Reader,
Ready? Set? Let’s Go!
As we launch into a new year as Trinity Church, I anticipate it will be an active, exciting, and productive year for us.
Already September is jam-packed with activities which you can read more about in this issue of Tidings.
And we have many more things planned for the coming year.
So! We need you to bring your best self – your gifts, talents, dreams and skills – and yes, your faith in God, the One who makes everything possible.
As I mark my third year here as pastor and my first anniversary as Senior Minister, I’m eager to work with you as we endeavor to accomplish more great things for Christ and our Northborough community!
With gratitude and appreciation,
Will

Hello Trinity Church Community!
I hope you have enjoyed the variety of weekly services this Summer. I am very proud of everyone who helped with making them happen.
No matter what role you played, from setting up chairs & tables to giving a full sermon, your efforts have not gone unnoticed and are extremely appreciated.
I am also extremely grateful for those that filled in during my vacation days. That being said…our service in the world continues. September brings new opportunities to connect with God, his creation, and his message of Love.
Here is a quick look at what music things are happening at Trinity in September:
-
September 7th - Outdoor service at Ellsworth-McAfee Park pavilion. Special Music and congregation songs featuring guest musician & Trinity family member, John Fraize!
-
September 14th - Weekly services return to the Sanctuary! Special Music provided by Hand Bell Choir.
- Handbell Open House at 11:30am (kid-friendly version available in Kids’ Corner)
-
September 21st - "Worship: the Musical” is happening again! Come experience a unique musical worship service that includes music almost entirely throughout in a Musical Theater style, while still including our typical worship service elements like congregation singing, prayer, and scripture. Pastor Will will also help us find auditory balance with a Meditation Intermission. You will not want to miss this!
- P.S. This day is also my birthday. Making music is one of my favorite things to do and I am excited to share my gift with others. Your presence in this unique service would be the best gift!
-
September 28th - We will be blessed by the handbells again, as Tom Danforth & Laurie Hunter play a duet arrangement of “It is Well” for our Special Music. And to finish off the Service, Pam Jones & I will play a lively 4-hands piano duet called “The Lily of the Valley”.
For the month of September, we will be taking a break from our Sung Benediction moment at the end of our services, but instead, we will have a Sung Response for the Scripture Reading.
For this purpose, I have chosen the first verse of “Wonderful Words of Life”, #323 in the Chalice Hymnal. I have decided not to choose a Song of the Month because of the various styles of worship services planned for us. But do not worry. We WILL resume this tradition in the month of October.
Music Ministry Ensembles will be starting their weekly rehearsal schedule this month. Check it out below.
- Hand Bell Choir - Wednesdays from 7pm-8pm in the 2nd Floor Parlor Room. Continues Sept 3rd.
- Adult Voice Choir - Sundays from 11:30pm-12:30pm in the 2nd Floor Parlor Room. Begins Sept 28th.
- Worship Band - Every other Wednesdays from 5:00pm-6:30pm in Sanctuary. Begins Sept 24.
Returning members should be on the look-out for an email with information about the first few weeks of rehearsals and details for anticipated performances. This is the perfect time for anyone to “test the waters” with being a part of one or more of these groups. Beginners are always welcome and music knowledge is not required. Even though we rehearse in order to fix our mistakes and to strive for perfection, being “perfect” is not the goal. What we share is a gift and is always received with a gracious heart. Please reach out to Tom Danforth (Bells) or myself (Choir & Worship Band) if you are interested and would like to be included in future communications for these groups or have any questions about participation expectations.
I hope everyone has a great start to the Fall season, and may each day bring you closer to God.
Until We Meet Again,
Scott Arnold (he/him)
Music Director of
Trinity Church of Northborough
| | HANDBELL CHOIR OPEN HOUSE | | |
The Handbell choir will be hosting an open house following the worship service on September 14 at 11:30am.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to play a handbell or if you’ve wondered about the
different sounds the bells can make or if you’ve thought about joining the handbell choir,
please join us in the sanctuary at 11:30am on the 14th. We will have all 3 octaves of the handbells out so you can try them.
We’ll have some fun with ringing the bells and then try a couple of pieces: “Jesus Loves Me” and “Amazing Grace.”
This is open to all curious bell ringers so please plan to join us.
If you have any questions, please contact Tom Danforth at tomdan4@gmail.com.

We would like to welcome back all children!
"Children's Church" will be starting up again on Sunday, September 14th. There will be a children's story and activities for the children.
Children's Church - The children who want to participate will leave the sanctuary with Faith Formations leaders during this time. The children's classroom is located on the 2nd floor, just outside of the sanctuary. The children will participate in an inter-active, faith-based lesson followed by a children's music time with Mr. Scott after worship service.
We hope to see you there!

September is Suicide Prevention
Awareness Month
It's a time to raise awareness, spread hope, and spark meaningful action around one of the most urgent mental health issues of our time.
How to be present for someone at risk:
Do's and Don'ts
- Be direct. Talk openly and matter-of-factly about suicide.
- Be willing to listen. Allow expressions of feelings. ...
- Be non-judgmental. ...
- Get involved. ...
- Don't dare them to do it.
- Don't act shocked. ...
- Don't be sworn to secrecy. ...
- Do offer hope that alternatives are available but do not offer glib reassurance.
