Recovery Partnership Highlight

Fit To Recover would like to thank Balance House for their dedication and commitment to recovery. They have been a supporter of FTR since 2015. While at Balance House for sober living, Ian was taught the importance of routine and commitment. They helped him with structure and staying consistent. He was encouraged and supported by staff, which helped lead to the creation of Fit To Recover.

Member Spotlight!

Peter Shipman

From the first day you showed up at FTR to now, what’s one way that you have seen yourself grow?

"An area of growth I've noticed throughout my time at FTR is accountability/dependability. When I first arrived at FTR in 2016, and throughout the years that followed, I put myself first, and rarely went out of the way to help someone else. If it didn't fit in my schedule, I wasn't likely to do it. Now, I offer rides, emotional support, and a helping hand as freely and often as possible. Continuing to show up to FTR events has helped me retrain myself to become someone that can be counted on. I've leaned on a lot of people in the past, and I hope to become someone that others can similarly lean on."

NUTRITION PILLAR

INSTANT POT BUFFALO CHICKEN SLIDERS

INGREDIENTS

Buffalo Sauce

• ½ cup butter

• 2 cups hot sauce

• ¼ cup lemon juice

• 2 tsp garlic powder

• 2 tsp paprika

• 1 tsp cayenne pepper

• Chicken breasts

PREPARATION

1. Pour 1/2 cup of the buffalo in the bottom of your Instant Pot and spread around. If you need to add a little more to cover the bottom, add more (this will depend on your Instant Pot size).

2. Add chicken breasts and season with salt and pepper if desired. Close Instant Pot lid, make sure vent is set to seal, and set to poultry mode on high pressure for 15 minutes. Manually release pressure when done.

3. Open the lid and set it to sauté mode for 5-10 minutes to help absorb excess liquid (the chicken gives off liquid as it cooks). While Instant Pot is on sauté mode, shred chicken with two forks. Be careful as the pot will be hot. Once most of the liquid is absorbed (you still want some - about 2/3-1 cup left/in the pot), turn off Instant Pot.

4. Pour in the rest of the buffalo sauce (about 1.5 cups) and stir to combine. Serve inside slider buns.t Pot size).
