Neighborhood Music School: From Our Home to Yours
Dear NMS Families,

While our doors remained closed to lessons, we have had much going on! Every day, we are increasing our number of students taking lessons online, and teachers are working hard to adjust and adapt to each students' needs. We are still patiently waiting for the time that we are able to open our doors again. This timeline will, most likely, match LAUSD. Thank you for your patience and your participation. We will all get through this together!

To kick off the school year, and the fall season, we would like to invite you to our virtual gala, Neighborhood Music School: From Our Home to Yours on September 26th, 2020 In past years, we have hosted the gala at the Grammy Museum, but this year, we are making it virtual, and focus on the past, present and future of our house, community and the stories, music and people who make us whole. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we have never needed it more than this year! It is free to RSVP and take part in the event, but there are other ways that you can support and make sure that this year's gala is a success!

  • RSVP and join in! The great thing about a virtual gala is that we can all watch it together and celebrate our awesome school and community. And it's free to watch! RSVP Here
  • Be a part of the video! Please send a quick video saying, "Goodbye!" or "we love you" or "NMS is Awesome" or "thank you!" and waving to office@neighborhoodmusic.org by Thursday, September 10th, and we will incorporate it into the closing moment of the show! We want to have as many of our NMS faces and voices represented, so please pick up your phone or computer and send us a quick shot!
  • Share the event with your networks! The more we share the event, and the more people who learn about the school, the better! Our networks are powerful and filled with potential students, donors, sponsors and collaborators. And there is no limit to how many people attend, or where they are when they attend! We've made it easy!
  • Bid on the Silent Auction! Every day, we are adding new auction items that range from signed scores, vinyl, instruments and more. All proceeds support NMS!
  • Donate an item for the Silent Auction! Let's celebrate our local artisans and businesses! Are you an artist, jeweler, photographer? Yogi? Restaurant owner? All of these items and experiences are great silent auction donations. This can be a great opportunity to market your work while supporting NMS! Contact Jeanine@neighborhoodmusic.org with any silent auction items and ideas you may be able to contribute.

We have been hard at work throughout the summer! We continue to showcase daily Showtime! performances on our social media, and even had the special treat of Cesar Beltran giving a special performance on the Livestream for Ozomatli, hosted by Boyle Heights own, Raul Pacheco!

Thanks to the Music Man Foundation, we distributed over 50 Scholarship Awards through our Covid Relief Scholarship. We continue to seek funding for additional scholarships, so if you missed this deadline- do not worry! We will have more opportunities coming up!

We also hosted a Back to School supplies giveaway on August 29th, which was also Play Music on the Porch Day- so we did that, too! Socially distanced and safely, of course! Assemblyman Miguel Santiago joined us, as did Andie Lopez from Senator Maria Elena Durazo's office! It was a great day to be able to give back to the community who gives us so much! If you missed our giveaway, do not fret! We still have some bookbags available. If you would like to claim a bookbag of your very own, please stop by the house on Friday, September 11th between 2-4 to pick up a bag! The distribution will be first come/first served and when we run out, we will be done! We will have them set up in the parking lot, so please come by to say hello, wear a mask, and practice social distancing! Because we will be using the parking lot for the giveaway, there will be no parking available in the lot, so be prepared and muster your good parking karma!
