THE SEVEN SORROWS OF MARY

Standing with Christ Through Every Trial

Throughout Catholic tradition, the month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows – a devotion that invites us to contemplate the suffering Mary endured throughout the life, Passion and death of her Son.

From Simeon's prophecy that a sword would pierce her heart, to losing the young Jesus in Jerusalem, to standing faithfully beneath the Cross, Mary knew sorrow. Yet through every trial, she remained steadfast in faith, trusting in God even when she could not see beyond the suffering before her.

A Model of Courage for Every Man

Mary's sorrows remind us that faith does not promise a life without suffering. It shows us how to remain faithful within it.

Every man carries crosses – worries about family, struggles at work, illness, loss, uncertainty, disappointment or concern for those we love. Our Lady of Sorrows shows us what faithful discipleship looks like in those moments: remain close to Christ. Trust Him. Pray. And do not abandon hope.

The Rosary gives us a powerful way to do exactly that. As we contemplate the mysteries of Christ through the eyes of His Mother, our own joys and sorrows become part of our prayer.

This September, bring whatever you are carrying to the Rosary. Join your brothers in Catholic Men's Ministry as we pray together, entrusting our families, our communities and one another to the intercession of Our Blessed Mother.
