SCV Water, in collaboration with the City of Santa Clarita and local partners, marked a significant milestone with the unveiling of the Bridgeport Park Sustainable Landscape Demonstration Garden on September 1, 2023. This pioneering garden is an educational haven, a first of its kind in the SCV community. It offers insights into water-wise landscaping, efficient irrigation techniques, and SCV Water's resources, including programs, incentives, and local landscape designer support.

Situated strategically at Bridgeport Park, this 14,800-square-foot gem was chosen for its projected foot traffic, proximity to the school, and popularity among visitors. Comprising four distinct gardens, it showcases sustainable features such as California Native and low-water-use plants, high-efficiency irrigation, rain gardens, and permeable concrete maintenance pads.

Visitors can explore and learn from these gardens, gaining knowledge about native plants, water-saving landscaping, and the beauty of non-traditional grass yards. They can pause for reflection on benches, savor fresh air amidst urban surroundings, and appreciate the mini-ecosystems teeming with bees, butterflies, and native species.

The Bridgeport Park Sustainable Landscape Demonstration Garden now welcomes the public to discover sustainable landscapes and gather ideas for their own yards. Visit during park hours along Bridgeport Lane between Bridgeport Elementary School and Bridgeport Park.

As September unfolds, we recognize National Preparedness Month, a vital reminder of our shared responsibility to be ready for the unexpected. This month centers around four key themes: creating emergency plans, building essential kits, understanding potential disasters, and educating the younger generation. Preparedness isn't an individual effort but a collective one, involving communities, organizations, and individuals.

During this month, take action by updating your emergency plan, replenishing your kit, staying informed, and engaging with your community. National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to empower ourselves and our communities, fostering resilience in the face of adversity. Preparedness is not a choice; it's our responsibility.

Let's take care of our environment together! Join hundreds of Santa Clarita residents in cleaning a portion of the Santa Clara River behind the Newhall Community Center at 22421 Market Street. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.

The Santa Clara River, which runs through the Santa Clarita Valley, is one of the last natural, free-flowing river systems in Southern California. It recharges our groundwater and is home to several endangered species, including the California Condor, the Stickleback fish and the Red Legged frog.

This is a great volunteer opportunity for families and groups. Open to all ages.

* All volunteers, regardless of age, must be registered (individually) online prior to the event.

* Parents: Add your family members to your account, accept the waivers, and register your family members individually for this opportunity. 

Need help paying your water bill? Apply for SCV Water’s Ratepayer Assistance Program (RAP). The RAP helps some low-income residential households stay current on their water bills.

Qualifying SCV Water residential customers can receive a $10 monthly credit towards their fixed service charge, for up to a 12-month period during the fiscal year (July-June).

Assistance will be given to qualifying customers from the priority group on a “first-come, first-served” basis, so long as funds are available. If additional funds are available after processing the priority group applications, the RAP will be opened to all eligible customers meeting the qualifying criteria.
