Naturalist Guided Tour

Take a walk through some of Weedon Island’s coastal habitats on a guided tour of the Tower Boardwalk. This tour offers a chance to explore the Preserve’s diverse ecosystems, native wildlife, and rich cultural history.
The Florida Horseshoe Crab Watch is a volunteer citizen science program that aims to collect data about horseshoe crabs in Florida. Volunteers collect the crabs, weigh and measure them, then tag and release! Learn more at this information session.
Join a Pinellas County Master Gardener and discover tried and true techniques to grow vegetables, herbs, and small fruit trees in our challenging Florida climate.
Join professional archaeologists for a hands-on lab where volunteers can help clean, sort, and identify real artifacts uncovered at Weedon Island. For ages 12+
Come meet Miss America, a juvenile Bald Eagle, and learn her extraordinary story and how she fits into the history of bald eagles in Florida. Presented by the Tampa Bay Raptor Rescue. Sponsored by the Friends of Weedon Island Preserve.
Families of pre-school aged children (3-5 years old) are invited to explore the wonders of the Weedon Island, this months theme is all about plants! Pinellas County Vegetation Management offers a reading from Eric Carle’s book "How does a seed sprout? Life Cycles with The Very Hungry Caterpillar".
Wildlife abounds at the Preserve especially the tiny kind, like butterflies, bees, crabs and other invertebrates. Join us to learn how to see Weedon’s little creatures. For ages 10+
Immerse your students in the natural and cultural wonders of Weedon Island on a self-guided field trip!
Your visit includes exclusive access to the Center's classroom space—perfect for lessons, hands-on activities, and viewing the welcome video Gulf Islanders: The Story of Weedon Island. Groups may also explore the “Connecting People and Place” exhibit gallery.

The Center has opportunities for volunteer docents who welcome visitors and provide information on the recreational and educational opportunities available at Weedon Island. There are also openings for seasonal guides who provide interpretive trail tours. Training is provided, but volunteers must be 18+.
Friends of Weedon Island is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the educational, conservation, and preservation efforts at Weedon Island Preserve in St. Petersburg, FL. Since their founding in 1992, they have provided essential financial and volunteer support for a variety of programs and projects aimed at safeguarding the Preserve’s unique habitat, ecology, and cultural history.
