It's the most wonderful time of the year! September is Library Card Signup Month! We also celebrate children going back to school, Grandparents' Day, and National Read a Book Day on September 6. Check the library for resources and support for the health issues of the month as well. As everyone gets back into the school-year groove, the library returns to nonsummer hours after Labor Day.
Hey, procrastinators! It is now the final month of the Summer Reading Program for adults, teens, and children. Bring in your bingo cards, punch cards, and reading logs by Saturday, September 26, to collect your prizes.

Please note: The library will be closed on Saturday, September 5, the final summer Saturday, and Monday, September 7, for Labor Day.
Additionally, our standard hours are back after Labor Day. The library will close at 6pm on Fridays starting September 11 and be open on Saturdays from 10am - 4pm starting September 12. As always, our digital collections and online resources will be available.

September Is Library Card Sign-Up Month
If you're reading this, chances are you already have a Rutherford Library card. However, you probably know a neighbor or friend who could use a nudge to get one. No matter what your reason or needs, a library card hits all the right notes! After all, we're the original data centers!
Check out a classic story or hit shuffle and try something new. Find harmony at your library’s book clubs, movie nights, crafting classes, and author talks. Compose your future with job search resources or advance a hobby with tools and games from the Library of Things. No matter what rhythm you find yourself in, there’s a seat in the front row at the library for you. This September, B sharp, and sign up for a library card!

Mural of the Story
Looking for inspiration? Artist and literacy super-advocate Marjoriet Gueche of Pupurishu Studios painted cheerful, reading-positive images on the walls of the Children's Department. The pictures celebrate reading in all forms. Says Gueche, "Everything starts with a library card. I hope children see themselves in these characters."
Funding for the murals was generously provided by The Friends of the Library of Rutherford.

Save the Date for a Cookie Party!
The Friends of the Library of Rutherford will host a Fall Cookie Decorating Class fundraiser at the Rutherford Public Library on Tuesday, October 14, from 6 to 8pm. Tickets will go on sale Monday, September 14.
Attendees will enjoy a beginner-level decorating class taught by pastry chef and Friends board member, Jennifer Costa, with refreshments provided. All proceeds will support Rutherford library programs. Visit RutherfordLibrary.org/Friends for more information.

We're not done with dinosaurs yet. Turtle Dance Music invites children to "Unearth Your Story" with dinosaurs and bubbles! As long as we're unearthing, we have Little Bookworms Yoga Storytime on Mondays and a Minecraft digging and building event for older children at the end of the month. And don't forget the birds! Learn about backyard species of our modern-day dinosaurs, birds.

We try to find the right notes for everyone! Tour guide and lecturer Mario Medici will show off the highlights of Central Park. A new Cinema Studies kicks off this fall, featuring Billy Wilder's movies. Insurance agent Fred Ciccone will provide an informative session on Medicare. And Mayernik Kitchen will show us how to boost our immune system naturally. Practice more self care with on-demand yoga, virtual mindfulness, crafts, book clubs, cooking, and virtual author talks ranging from historians to general interest to bestsellers!
