Innovation for Improving Access to Care
During a recent trip to Washington D.C., I spoke with Kaiser Permanente doctors about their service model. Our conversations left me inspired to discuss and explore innovations within our current health care system.

Albert Einstein once suggested “we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” It’s no secret that there are challenges that face our health care system. Among these challenges is access – to us, to our specialty colleagues, to allied health, and to numerous other resources that link to our health care system.

As we explore how we fund the system, we need to be progressive in looking at ways to improve access ...

What is Connect Care?

Connect Care will bridge gaps between patients, their health information, healthcare providers, and locations. It will also help to bridge current and future care. Healthcare providers can use the system to identify the decisions and approaches that best improve Albertans’ lives. By sharing knowledge, we can close gaps which ultimately lead to better outcomes and satisfaction for Albertans.

Community practitioners are a huge part of any person’s care team, and it’s vital that they have information and awareness about Connect Care and how it will support and benefit the care of their patients...

First Five Years:
Reflections One Year into Practice

By: Kiran Dhillon, MD, CCFP

It’s amazing how quickly the first year in practice can fly by! Adjusting from residency to independent practice comes with a few challenges at the start, but just as with any life or career transition, a bit of time and experience will help you find your feet. Here are a few tips and suggestions that I’ve come up with after reflecting on my first twelve months in practice.

1. Start low and go slow.
Not just a useful slogan for titrating medication, but also a good mantra for your first few months of practice! When I started practice...

Meet Your ACFP Committees

This month's committee feature is our Awards and Recognition Committee.

The ACFP Awards and Recognition Committee recognizes, celebrates, and supports family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students in excellence in leadership, education, advocacy, and research. The Committee will help promote the ACFP Awards Program and will play a strong role in scanning viable candidates for national recognition through the College of Family Physicians’ Honours and Awards program.

Impact Assessment Questionnaire

The CFPC introduced a number of enhancements to the College’s CPD program and platform in 2016 with the launch of Mainpro+. One of which was the requirement to complete an impact assessment as part of the credit reporting process. The Impact Assessment Questionnaire is included in many activity submissions allowing you to describe how an activity has influenced your practice and whether you perceived any bias. Responses are required in order for your credits to be processed and shown in your records.

Based on an evaluation of Mainpro+ post-launch and participant feedback, the CFPC has made changes to the impact assessment activity.

Enter your answer below for a chance to win* one of five $25 gourmet coffee gift cards!
As of May 2019, how many questions are now on the Impact Assessment questionnaire?
* Only correct answers will be entered into the draw. The five lucky winners will be notified by email and will have their names published in the October edition of our eNews.
