The effects of Alcohol:
Drinking to cope is not safe
Alcohol sales in Ohio are soaring during the pandemic. Some people believe that alcohol helps relieve stress, but it is not a good coping mechanism. It is known to increase the symptoms of panic and anxiety disorders, depression and other mental disorders.
Drinking too much can cause significant health problems including a weakened immune system.
Moderate drinking = Drinks per day: 1 for adult women, 2 for adult men
Binge = Consuming within about 2 hours: 4 or more for women, 5 or more for men
Heavy alcohol use = Drinks per day: 3 or more for women, 4 or more for men
Even with moderate drinking, one should take caution that alcohol is not being used to cope with stress, anxiety, or boredom. Binge drinking and heavy alcohol use are problematic. If you or a family member need help with problem drinking, please call the Addiction Helpline at 330-940-1133.
