Fall Flicks: Shrek

Let’s go to the movies! There will be a Fall Flicks Outdoor Movie Showing of "Shrek" at 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 17 in the library courtyard weather permitting. Bring your favorite lawn chair, blankets, and get cozy. Warm drinks and light refreshments will be provided. Sign up to reserve a snack pack at the library or by calling (920) 398-3434.
Facebook Live Event: Wisconsin's Most Haunted Locations

Looking for a few shivers, this cool and crisp fall that have nothing to do with the weather and everything to do with spooky stories, weird places and strange occurrence? Do you have your own bump in the night tales to tell? Then save the date! On Monday, September 28th at 6:00 pm, the Markesan Library will be hosting a Haunted Wisconsin Facebook live event with author and paranormal researcher Chad Lewis. Lewis holds a Master's of Science degree in Applied Psychology and is the paranormal researcher and author for Unexplained Research LLC. For the last 20 years he has traveled the globe in search of unique and bizarre stories and history.

Join him for a tour guide on the most haunted locations in Wisconsin, then stick around for questions and answers. For those without quality internet, the library will stay open late that night and set up the big screen.

New online challenges!
Take one of our fun, new, online challenges and you will earn small prizes, enter raffles, and discover great resources along the way. There's something for all ages!

Along with 1,000 Books before Kindergarten, the library is launching two new challenges on Monday, September 21 : 100 Books before College & Digital Discoveries! The challenges will take place completely online and readers can access them at markesanlibrary.beanstack.org. Participants can also download the Beanstack app and search for Markesan Library to play. 

100 Books Before College (ages 12-19): 100 Books before College dares readers 12-19 yrs. to read 100 books before they graduate. Small incentives we be awarded and at every 10 books read, participants earn tickets to enter into a prize raffle of either a $25 Ted’s Piggly Wiggly Gift Card or $10 gas station cards. At 50 books read, participants earn a book to be purchased in their honor for the library’s collection by an author or genre of their choice. The library will put that participants name in recognition inside the book and the reader will get the first checkout. At 100 books read, participants will receive a book to keep. The raffle portion of this challenge will be drawn on June 1, 2021 and then renew with prizes for participants still working on their goals.

Digital Discoveries (ages 12 - adult): This challenge is meant to encourage exploration of the online world with the information experts at Markesan Library. People who take this challenge will be sure to learn about a few new free and helpful online tools. Again, small incentives will be awarded and raffle tickets will be earned. The raffle portion of this challenge (a $25 Family Dollar gift card) will end on Dec.1, 2020. 

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (birth to 5 years old): This challenge is is a fun, exciting, and free way to start your child on the path to success! Any child ages birth to five years can participate. Each time you read 100 books, bring your reading record to the library to receive a special reward. At 1,000 books read, come celebrate at the library, see your child’s name placed on the 1,000 Book Wall of Fame, and receive a free book. Pick up a log sheet at the library, or download one by clicking here to get started!

Make and Take Crafts are back!

Make & Take Crafts are back! Watch the library website and Facebook page for updates on new Make & Take craft kits to pick up at the library. Kits for various ages from kids to adults will be made available on a first come, first served basis until supplies run out. For our Storytime lovers we even have crafts with a book!
Accepting applications for library assistant opening
Join a friendly, positive, and service orientated workplace! Markesan Library is taking applications for a Library Assistant. 6-13 hrs/wk. HS or GED required. Technology and social media knowledge preferred. Applications available until Friday, Sept 11 at 75 N. Bridge St., Markesan.

The Chair Affair returns in 2021! Chair donations sought
Back by popular demand! The Markesan Public Library Chair Affair is being planned for 2021. Please consider donating your structurally sound, wooden chairs to the library. Check your garage, basement, and attic for old unused chairs. Over the summer and fall chairs will be collected by the library. Then, chairs will be given to local volunteers to paint and decorate for a silent auction-date TBD. The money raised will help the library fund its programs and weather the COVID-19 setbacks. We know its early, but we need your chairs now.

In compliance with Governor Evers' emergency order #1, face masks will now be required inside the library for those able to wear them. Right now, we have a limited supply of disposable masks available. If you don't have your own, just ask at the desk!
