PREPARING FOR SUNDAY

"In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:1-10

Reflection:
"...Notice the parables Jesus offers. They’re not about being wrong. They are about being lost. A sheep is lost. A coin is lost. There is nothing about culpability, blame, or finding fault. That doesn’t seem to be Jesus’ concern. His concern is for the one that is lost, missing, absent. Jesus doesn’t explain how the lost one became lost. He doesn’t blame or judge. That’s not the issue. The issue for Jesus is recovering and reclaiming the lost.

...The starting point for Jesus is grace: searching not blaming, finding not punishing, rejoicing not condemning. The first question for Jesus is not one of sin, who’s in and who’s out, or who gets a dinner invitation. For Jesus, everyone is already in. Everyone is invited. The first question and primary concern is one of presence. Have we shown up or are we lost and missing?"

Growing in Faith
Sunday School

St. Martin’s Sunday School program year starts on Sunday, September 22nd at 9:30 AM. For 2019/2020, we will start an entirely new timeline consisting of readings from the Old Testament. Plans include singing, dancing, and the acting out of scripture passages. Older children will meet in the large Sunday School room while those under 3 years of age will be with Megan in the smaller room/nursery. We look forward to praying, learning and growing in faith! Contact Deb Parker if you have questions.

Our Vestry has undergone some recent changes. For personal reasons Chris Delaney has stepped down as Rector’s Warden. The Vestry has elected Sandy Reinhardt as Rector’s Warden and McLeod Gwynette as a new member. Many thanks to Chris for her years of service and we look forward to the insight and contributions from Sandy and Cloudy.

Gryphon Cafe Gatherings

The next Upper Room gathering is on Wednesday, September 25th at 6:00 PM upstairs at the Gryphon Café, 105 W. Lancaster Ave, Wayne. The discussion questions will be “Are we connected to others or not? Does how we answer that question inform the vision that draws us into the future?” Stop in on any 2nd or 4th Wednesday for some interesting conversation and fellowship.
SWIC News
Chicken Farm Initiative

Pam Faber and Deb Parker look forward to sharing exciting news about the Chicken Farm Initiative on September 29th immediately after the 10 AM service, in the Gurley Room. You will meet the first farmers who were funded, and learn about the tremendous benefit to the communities up in the Nineveh Plains.
CCI's Centennial
Celebrate 100 Years!

Mark your calendar and plan to attend Christ Church, Ithan's 100-year anniversary celebration on Sunday, November 10th. St. Martin's will forego on-site services that day and support the commemorative efforts of the planning committee that's represented by both churches. Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at Christ Church only at 10:00 AM with Bishop Rodney Michel. Invitations to the celebratory brunch immediately following the service have been mailed. Please call SMC's main office at 610-688-4830 if one hasn't been received.
