Did you know that kids 5+ can always present their ideas at Start-up Slam? Creativity knows no age, so bring the whole family!
This is a community-oriented event where people share a meal, share new business ideas, make new friends, and can network. Up to 15 participants at the event are welcome to share their ideas with the crowd (3-minute limit), and attendees will be able to vote on their favorite at the end of the evening. The top vote-getter takes home all the cash collected at the door - no strings attached! No business plans and no requirements, just the following guidelines:
- Ideas must be new business ideas (not yet established).
- Those who wish to share their idea will put their name in at the door.
- Up to 15 names will be drawn randomly to present.
- Each presenter has 3 minutes to share one idea.
Kids under 5 are free, everyone else is $10 at the door. The cash collected at the door goes to the winning business idea!

Artist in Residence - Dottie Stone
September 11- October 31
Dotti Stone is a studio artist at Bower Center for the Arts in Bedford VA where she teaches adult and youth mosaics classes. She relocated to Southwestern Virginia in 2007 after many years as a professional photographer in the Washington DC area and as owner and designer at Great Falls Stained Glass creating commissioned glass work and teaching classes. Her formal art education was received at Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU).
In 2004 Stone took up mosaics. She relocated to Wirtz VA in 2007 has worked continuously as a mosaic artist and teacher of this centuries old art form. After maintaining a home studio for a couple of years she opened a studio in Bower Center for the Arts and in 2010 moved to Bedford to be close to Bower Center, the studio, and be part of a growing arts community. In 2018, she set up a second studio in Studios 207 in the Electric Company: Art & More at 207 East Depot Street in Bedford, VA.

We are looking for a full-time Foundation Administrator to support the mission of The Community Foundation as we continue to grow. The individual assists with donor services communication, including fund management, donor stewardship,
and donor correspondence. This person has office management and governance responsibilities, supports special projects and event preparation, and supports the grant and scholarship process.

All Aboard for Old 97 Rail Days!
For the first time since starting Rail Days two decades ago, the model trains will be set up in Science Station, the 120-year-old train station building that's part of the Science Center.
This year's event will feature N-scale and T-gauge model train displays from private collectors. With the new space comes new layout opportunities. Don't miss this chance to explore intricate scenes and unexpected details around every corner!
