Show your support during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month | |
|
The National Institute of Health (NIH) estimates that 10,470 children ages 14 and under will be diagnosed with cancer this year. About 10 percent – 1,050 – are expected to lose their battle, making cancer the leading cause of death from disease among children. This month, we ask you to join us in bringing awareness to the issue while supporting children who are facing cancer.
There are many ways to show you care. Wear a gold ribbon, the symbol of childhood cancer awareness; talk about childhood cancer with your family and friends; support and participate in Carson Higgins Memorial Foundation causes, such as our annual Golf Outing on Sept. 26 and our commitment to bring Augment Therapy to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital (see the video below). Keep reading to learn about the many ways your commitment to CHMF is making a difference for children and families facing cancer. Together, we are #CarsonStrong.

Lights of Hope illuminates need for cancer funding and research
The Carson Higgins Memorial Foundation was a $2,500 sponsor for this year’s Lights of Hope. An event of the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), Lights of Hope brings awareness to state and federal lawmakers that fighting cancer must be a national priority.
Each luminary remembers a loved one who has survived cancer or remembers loved ones we’ve lost. Monies raised support educational and advocacy efforts to advance evidence-based solutions that reduce death and suffering from cancer. Locally, the event was organized by Vince Marchetta and his family in remembrance of his wife, Betsy, who died in 2019 after a long battle with cancer.

Join Team CHMF at the Akron Marathon
The Carson Higgins Memorial Foundation is participating in the Akron Marathon on Sept. 24. As a Blue Line Charity, marathon participants can choose to raise money for our foundation. If you are not a runner or walker, you can still help by making a donation in support of a CHMF team member.

Founded in 2017, the Carson Higgins Memorial Foundation enhances the quality of life for children facing cancer and other life challenges by funding programs that provide therapeutic, medical and educational opportunities.
Carson Gene Higgins courageously faced neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer that affects the body’s nervous system. While Carson’s life was short, it was rich with faith, hope, love, and strength. His examples of kindness and generosity encourage us to live and love richly, to take each day as a gift, and to give generously. Together, we can bring hope to other families facing difficult and sometimes devastating life challenges. Learn more about Carson’s story and CHMF’s commitment at www.carsonstrong.org.
