September is Library Card Sign-Up Month

Tony Award-winning performer, actress, singer-songwriter, and philanthropist Idina Menzel and her sister author and educator Cara Mentzel will serve as honorary chairs of Library Card Sign-Up Month 2022.

As honorary chairs, Idina and Cara will remind everyone that one of the best places to find your voice is at the library. And during Library Card Sign-Up Month, they want you to explore all the library has to offer, like new children’s books, access to technology, and educational programming.

In honor of the Menzel sisters please enjoy one of these books about music, singing, and musical theatre. If you don't already have a library card this is a great time to get one, or renew your old account!

Construction is underway for our new 24/7 Pickup Lockers. The Library is still open for our regular hours and patrons can enter through the front door as usual.

The stairs leading from Herman Street to Ridgewood Avenue (the stairs on the right hand side when facing the building) will be closed for the length of the project.

Did you know that one in 10 men (8%) and one in 200 women (.5%) are color blind -- 13 million in the US, 30 million in Europe and 350 million worldwide? People with red-green Color Vision Deficiency (CVD, or “color blindness”) only see about 10% of the one million hues and shades visible to those with regular color vision. That’s why at work, school, in daily life, or when exploring nature or viewing artwork, it’s hard for them to see red or green or any colors containing them.

The Library has EnChroma Colorblind classes available to borrow for FREE with your Glen Ridge Library card in our "Library of Things" and we will be giving away two pairs of glasses in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more information.

Post to Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #GetLibraryCarded. Entries can also be submitted by posting as a comment or wall post on the I Love Libraries Facebook page. Be sure not to reveal any personal information on your library card and don't forget to tag your library! The creator of one randomly-selected post will receive a $100 Visa gift and a poster of choice from ALA Graphics. Three second-place winners will receive their poster of choice from ALA Graphics.
