SEPTEMBER 2024 • VOLUME 7, ISSUE 9

September is Suicide Prevention Month: What You Should Know

Suicide is a big problem in Wisconsin. It is one of the top 10 causes of death, and it's the second leading cause of death for young people aged 10-24 in our state. At Pillar Health and Kenosha Community Health Center, we help kids and adults in Southeast Wisconsin with mental health. We also want to make sure everyone knows about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, a simple number to call for help during a mental health crisis. Read more to learn how to spot the warning signs of suicide and how to help.

Breast Cancer Awareness: Screenings Are Important All Year

October is known for breast cancer awareness, but it's important to get screened all year. Over 2 million women around the world are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. In the U.S., 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in her lifetime. At Kenosha Community Health Center (KCHC) and Pillar Health, we offer support and referrals for screenings to make sure no one faces breast cancer alone.

Jenell Jackley, NP was wonderful, explained things, and spoke to my child as the patient, not just to me as the mom. She gave him the same respect, and we were both pleased with the visit!”

We Help Moms and Kids From the Start

At Pillar Health, we offer many services for expecting and new moms, like pregnancy tests, referrals to OB, lactation consulting, and pediatric care through our Pillar Kids services. We’re here to help you and your baby have a healthy start, which includes welcoming you back to reconnect with your primary care provider after delivery. Here are five tips moms need to know if they’re preparing to get pregnant or are already pregnant:

  • Take Prenatal Vitamins
  • Eat Healthy Foods
  • Go to Regular Checkups
  • Stay Active
  • Get Plenty of Rest

We have four locations to serve you and your children. Please share this with other moms looking for health services!
